Late season success

Anyone know which calls are effective after the peak rut, or are the deer just relying on food plots? I also have heard of something called the second rut, so maybe a for estrous bleat?

Is there such thing as the second rut?

Not so much a second rut as the doe that didn't get bred the first go round will be looking to hook up again. Usually the lil yearlings will be on the menu this go round.

Yes there can be if your buck to doe ratio is out of whack. Then you can get into another later rut with doe fawns that are large/old enough to breed. Some areas will also have a trickle rut, where there is rutting activity from the normal start till all the does are bred.

Every 28 days until they are all bred, so if you know when activity was heavy in early November you can plan accordingly.

Hand corning areas can be very effective during the closing days of the season.

In my experience, food sources have always been good late in the season. If you have a place with a popular food source you'll see more deer there than you would have 4 or more weeks ago. Bucks will still be interested in does but they are primarily feeding. A larger feed source will be better than just a feeder but both will produce.
