Got a buck in Erath County - 11/13/15 10:23 PM
Got this buck yesterday in northern Erath County, just a few miles south of New York Hill. He came out and was feeding with his head down and broadside to me, so I couldn't tell how wide his rack was. I kept watching him through the scope of my 30.06 and he finally raised his head and quartered towards me. He must have sensed me and his ears went straight up. I could see plenty of daylight between his ears and antlers on both sides and pulled the trigger right away. That buck jumped up and took off into the trees behind him. I couldn't believe he didn't drop right there. I waited about 30 minutes and went after him. I found a blood trail but the few spots i found weren't large and they were several feet apart. I found tracks where his hooves had hit the ground hard, tearing up the dirt. I found him about 25-30 yards in. Of course laid up in the thick stuff to die. Dragged him out and got him to the processor last night.
