Saw a couple of weird bucks today

Saw a couple of weird bucks today - 11/08/15 03:23 AM

Sat all day in the stand today and saw quite a bit of movement pretty much all day, but had two odd bucks show up. One was an older buck with 1 eye, but the weirdest buck I've ever seen was a 3.5 year old with no antlers! Big bodied deer but it looked like he just dropped his sheds. Anyone ever see this at this time of year?

I didn't get a pic of "no horns"since he didn't stick around long, but here's "One Eyed Jack". Excuse the pics. Was taking video with the dslr and had to take a pic of the screen.

You might as well shoot one, cause they probably think that you're just as weird. I do, too.

Lol no deer shot from my stand today. Thought about One eyed Jack, but just couldn't do it. Miss Piggy took a nap though.

My guess is going to be fighting on both of them. The buck in the pics has an obvious fighting/rut related injury to his eye. He will live and do fine. The other buck without seeing any pics, I would say also fighting related injury breaking both antlers off at or into the skull. I have seen a buck break one antler off into or at the skull but never both sides.

I figured the one eyed buck got it from fighting but wasn't sure on the other deer, but it makes sense. Thanks stx.

Sneaky, I didn't have my camera ready. The one time I had my gun out the window in anticipation, the camera wasnt ready. Figures.

If you can look closely at him you might still see some of the antler or where it broke out of the skull. I think it would be rare for a buck to break both antlers out of his skull, unless he got hung up in something and pulled them out trying to free himself.

ZK-315 can you tell in the original pics of the buck that is blind in one eye if he has a mark or injury to his nose(below his eyes)?

Once I get the video loaded from the camera I'll take a close look at him. There is a white patch of hair right below the eye that I can see, but I'll have to look better once I load the video.

confused2 roflmaona the only thing I shot yesterday was a piggie. I'm pretty patient when it comes to deer. I'll look them over really good before pulling the trigger

I was talking more across the bridge of his nose right below both eyes. It looks like a crease in the hair from an antler or something he could have run into.

It's hard to tell. It almost looks like a scar, but also could be that he just has a thick toupee confused2 (not sure what you call it on a deer ) roflmao

Don't bash my video skills...not to sharp yet with the camera and tripod in video mode.

My uncle had something happen on his lease a few years ago in south Texas where he had bucks begin to drop their antlers really early, during the main part of the season. They had a few shot and tested and a few darted and tagged. What they were told was that because of the amount of rain the region had gotten, there was some sort of weed or plant that came up that the deer were eating that caused them to drop their horns early. The ones they darted all had normal racks the next year.

Very interesting polishpreacher. I just found it rather strange to see a big bodied buck with no antlers at this time of year.
