El nino?!?

Just wondering everyone's opinion on this whole el nino thing what it might do to our season? What to expect? Should we be planning for rain gear all season or what haha

Should prob move this to open hunting or deer forum.

It's supposed to be a wet season. Personally, I like the rain. It keeps the lightweights out and makes for silent stalking.

Seems the last 3 years I've had more rainy hunts than good weather hunts. Maybe I just notice it more since I have to figure out a way to keep camera gear dry or am irritated bc it would've been stupid to take it.

I'm hoping for it to keep the deer moving more during the day to stay warm vs moving at night as is always our problem during the season right

One of my most memorable hunt was stalking in the rain. Didn't get a thing, didn't see a thing except some tracks. Soaked to the bone and cold. I felt like I was really hunting that day and the memory has never gone away.

I'd think it will make for better hunting. Cloudy/rainy days should lead to more daytime movement. With all the rain we had this spring, and probably more rain than normal this fall, there should be lots of native browse which may make hunting over a corn feeder less effective, but if you find the native vegetation they are feeding on it should make for good hunting.

There is nothing better than sitting in the blind after a good downpour.

If you put ten different weather experts in the same room and ask each one to predict what is going to happen six months from now, you will get ten different answers. Nobody has a clue what is going to happen other then it will get colder in winter, then warm up again in summer. I think the reason they all give different predictions is because the one that guesses right gets to be the hero for that year. Of course, he will be wrong every year after that, but just getting it right once allows him or her to be an expert on the talk shows for at least a decade.

I hope it's a really wet winter. We had above average rain this spring but it was far from enough. Hasn't rained in a month at my house and it's really dry and hot. Hopefully it pours right before dove season like it usually does.

I can't remember exactly but I think it was around 07 or 08 it rained constantly during the deer season and I was hunting in LaSalle county. I bought some aggressive mud tires for my Jeep and had to drive through pools of standing water and mud in order to get to my feeder. At one point we had so much rain the Frio river flooded and my feeder although about a 1/2 mile from the river fell victim to the high water.
That was a very difficult season to say the least.

I saw on the news last weekend they are forecasting a "Godzilla El Nino" for this Fall. She said Texas could potentially see rains similar to this Spring. She also specifically referenced 2007 as the last time the conditions were set up like they are.
