.224 TTH

Anyone actually hunt with one?, am wanting a high energy light recoiling round for daughter who wants something unusual.

Use a good bullet and good shot placement and im sure you will do fine. I have shot too many deer to count with a 223 and 60 grain nosler partition, zero complaints with that combo.

She has shot my .223/64 pp loads but says it's too common and boring

I'm not exactly sure what I would say to that but she probably wouldn't like it. Sounds like she probably don't want for much though.

I have hunted with one and it is a very sweet load with virtually no recoil but plenty of knockdown power for hogs and deer.

redchev...,not want for much;, meaning what?,,,,,I don't like the .223 either except in my 177E2 clone,I only have a .223 sporter because my late wife got it for me, too boring, '85, I know it is....I got her hooked on wanting unusual; always chasing wildcats is a 50 year old habit of mine !,,, Pitchfork, that's what she needs, she's not a fan of recoil, like MOST, not all, female shooters..., what bullet weight/twist barrel?,,, liked it, sounds like.

I had a hill country Rem 700 in 224 TTH. Great little round but finding 6mm cases is getting harder and harder. Even 257 Roberts cases aren't easy... But none the less it was a very fun gun

Couple others to look at that are very close to the TTH are the 22-243 and 22 Creedmoor. Both are wildcats only so not common but work great on deer and hogs with good bullets and brass is easy to find. Get a 1:8 twist barrel and you will be good for bullets up to 80gr.

Killed 8 hogs one morning with the Remington 700 in 22-243, could have gotten a couple more if not for having to reload. Was deer hunting and only had loaded 3 in the gun. So far have not had to shoot any deer or hog more than once with weights of game taken 30 to 200lbs.

75gr Swift Sirocco is my bullet of choice for that round when hunting anything bigger than coyotes and it works great on them as well.

Gotta agree a bolt action .223 is pretty boring!

What about a .22 creedmoor if not mentioned already?

For just deer and hogs a .22-6mm is fine. All a person would need for texas or any southern state

Pretty much everything gets boring, but the again, having to load wildcats gets old after a while when there's a 22-250 & 220 swift offering to get velocity. Then you get into dropping down bullet size in something like a 25-06 or 243 and realize you're just making things hard on yourself with very minimal ballistic improvement.

I think there is something about owning a wildcat or a oddball caliber thst is enjoyable. Like driving a rare or modified car

224 Weatherby, 223 WSSM,243 WSSM with 55 grain bullet. That is great, I have went out of my way to buy odd calibers, why be normal?

Isn't the ballistics almost identical to the .22-250?

243 or 257R with 80gr TTSX gets the same results. Guess that could be boring, though.
