Doe with Eartag

Doe with Eartag - 07/03/15 06:53 PM

We've got a doe on our place with an ear tag. I assume she got out of Little Paint Creek ranch when all the flooding occurred last month. Hopefully she's bred with a stud buck. Anyway, question I got is should she stay around would it be silly to let her walk year after year? I would think she is of better gene quality than our native deer.

Not silly at all. Leave her be.

She could be from a TTT move on native deer from anywhere in the state, from a breeding pen anywhere in the state or someones pet they tagged to let others identify her in that area. One way or the other one doe is not going to alter your genetics any at this point. The only thing she can doe is raise fawns from now on that will grow up into adult deer. Still won't be enough numbers to alter your genetics.

we have one on our ranch in Bosque that has been there for 4 years now...When she first appeared none on the other Does would let her come near a feeder. But now she ranges with the herd......Every year she has thrown twins..We have a 'pass on her" when people see her...We spoke to the ranch next door..She was thrown from a rather large mainframe 10,thus why she has the very prevalent orange ear tag..They had her in a 10 acre pen but somehow got on our place....

It may not change the genetics, but it sure as heck won't hurt.

Years ago, I had a group of five come into my feeder. The largest doe was easy to spot. She had a red tag on one ear. The LO had no idea where she came from and because of her size, she was declared off limits.
