My 2014 Season - 05/20/15 04:01 PM
Howdy all,
I kind of fell off the THF wagon after deer season started. I had a great season hunting with the boys and I killed a lot this year. I have been so dang busy since then I haven't had a chance to share my results. I have a little time now so here is a run down of my season...
Kills for 2014:
2 does
1 spike (aged at 2-1/2)
A nice 9-point
1 red stag bull
1 turkey (shot Thanksgiving morning with my AR-15 cause that's what I had with me:)
1 coyote
I can't remember how many pigs exactly, but it was about 6-8
I took the wife and boys with me the whole week after opening weekend and it was great! The big blind that I built last year before the season was well worth the money and effort since we were able to all four go hunting in it and have plenty of room to be comfortable. Since I knew we were going to be up there for a full 7 days, on day one I took a cot up with me and set it up which worked out perfect for the kids to take naps (our youngest had just turned three so the afternoon hunt was perfect for nap time!!!). The older boy had wanted to shoot a deer for many months leading up to the season, but he decided he wasn't quite ready once it came time. That is fine with me because I want him to be ready, so I shot for him. The only down fall to the season was Southwest airlines "disposing" of a cooler full of meat (an entire doe and the tenders out of two pigs) because the cooler was "leaking". It was not, and I was pretty sad about the loss of the meat, but 6 months later I am starting to get over it...a little.
Alright, that's enough talk. Here are some pictures of my season. The 9 point and the stag are at the taxidermist, I will post some pics of them when they are done.
I think I have hit my allowable limit for photos in one post. I will post the rest in the comments
Only 171 more days until rifle season!!!
