Seriously, a guy who checks traps when I'm not in town gets all of them. I don't care what he does with them as long as they're gone. Great haul for me, 3 sows and 18 pigs, not so great for him.

There are a lot of buyers in the state. I really don't know what they do with them but they pay good money. I am sure some get sold to ranches, and I have also heard that some of the meat goes overseas.

I know Busy B Ranch in Jefferson buys trapped hogs and puts them in a high fence area. They then sell the bow hunts for hogs. $350 for 2 days.

Re: Live from Naca-no-where 2015..... - 04/06/15 06:15 PM

knew a guy around here that had numerous traps set up with a small haul trailer and a big heavy duty pen where he kept them, once he got a full 32 foot cattle trailer load, he hauled them to a buyer down around Houston. Supposedly, that guy down there took them to a place for processing, packaged, froze, shipped to Europe as "wild boar" that was going for stupid amounts of money (worse than brisket roflmao) ... If memory serves me, he was getting $0.35-0.40 a pound on the hoof. he made pretty good money and the ranchers were happy to get rid of the feral hogs

I believe only boars can be released into shooting preserves, and those have to be permitted. Check the link for regulations.

This one would eat all the way up to anything that would catch him then just leave things alone. Amazing how he knew the difference between a corn pile & a corn pile with a snare rigged on it. Threw him for a loop and had the guy set it down a road away from everything and put a corn pile in the middle of the road and snares all around the spread corn instead of the pile. He's a big hog to deal with on a string.

Spotted one hasn't been seen since Dec so maybe he caught the swine flu.

If they keep that up, I'm going to wear out the shutter on a camera this weekend in that stand. My main camera I set up on a scrape got switched to video mode and it filled up the card quick. Lots of hogs using the trail the deer are using too, but I did get video of the drop tine deer, he's hobbled and wasn't putting much weight on a hind leg.

Re: Live from Naca-no-where 2015..... - 11/08/15 04:04 PM

Rather have it raining than windy. I usually just see coyotes and bobcats on these kind of days....haven't seen any of them. Maybe they're boycotting me since I didn't plant across the creek for the rabbits.

Re: Live from Naca-no-where 2015..... - 11/08/15 04:07 PM

Funny you mention BC, I was in my tripod yesterday evening and I would have taken a cat over a deer. Agree on the rain vs wind, winds above 25, I will leave my stand by 9am.
Posted By: rifleman

Re: Live from Naca-no-where 2015..... - 11/08/15 04:10 PM

These deer are usually late movers in the wind. If I was smart I'd grab some horns and drop down in the creek bottom. Just wrong time of season to blow deer out of there with everyone hunting.

Re: Live from Naca-no-where 2015..... - 11/14/15 12:52 PM

Wish I was out there this morning. The morning sun really highlights the deer on my favorite east-west pipeline but leaves my stand in the shade of the hill behind me. With the cooler weather I would bet that everything is moving well. Good luck on the day!

Re: Live from Naca-no-where 2015..... - 11/14/15 12:56 PM

They should move well, it's just windy...again. I don't have much of a wind buffer on this place.

Can't believe I didn't kill that hog, he even gave me a second chance when he popped out on the field.

Nature watching. He's going to root me a thank you note in the middle of this hay field. He needs to come back through at about 10 or sometime this evening.

Re: Live from Naca-no-where 2015..... - 11/14/15 01:27 PM

You'd think if big old boar how is moving, big old buck should be too. Maybe the bobcat ran him out since they came out of the same trail minutes apart. I'd like to see that altercation.

His "thank you", will be a hunerd more piglets LOL

Bucks may be moving around midday after they do all their early am checking.

Re: Live from Naca-no-where 2015..... - 11/14/15 02:04 PM

I've got the piglets covered with or without him.

I'm looking at what they should be checking..guessing they're downin the creek bottom out of the wind. These does are doing the same thing behind the big hill on the pipeline staying out of the wind down in that hole.

Order it online & have it delivered.

Re: Live from Naca-no-where 2015..... - 11/14/15 02:25 PM

I would, but the electronic board went out in her other one Wednesday and I didn't have a chance to look at until yesterday. The board is 1/3 the cost of a new washer, ridiculous. Plus, working nights, it is hard for me to be available the wy they deliver appliances.

I would also have to find such a good deal online from a reputable source in case I have product issues (on an appliance). I did buy a dishwasher online in Jan (off that month) saved over $400 and free shipping!

The one we want, is probably the best you can buy right now, made in the USA by Speed Queen, so very limited dealer network because so many go to commercial work.

BTW, you going to chute something or what? They are in the thick cover, you are a mod, sneak in there and get one geeeez. grin

BTW, BTW. did your last elk hunters do any good up there?

Re: Live from Naca-no-where 2015..... - 11/14/15 03:31 PM

I hear ya. Well, make sure they match your other appliances or you'll be swapping then all out.

You can't see 5' in the cover.
And they didn't kill any elk. Towards the end there was a standing next to a road requirement for a raghorn TK meet and none met that requirement. Other deer hunters did pretty good.

Turn around and a funky horn buck comes within 5yds of me and he is gettin it. Step out from the trail to look down the lane he was running down and see 3 dogs running my way. Hate those things.

Slow? yep.

I made a camera case out of a dry storage box with the way it's been raining. I've been hunting the wrong stand, so hope to fix the activity issue. Deer are on that pipeline stand all week long, then cut off as weather changes.

Re: Live from Naca-no-where 2015..... - 11/16/15 05:29 PM

I have only heard 2 shots since opening morning. One was a small caliber that missed on Friday afternoon. I am not seeing the herd of does in the open country across the highway. My TC pics have shrunk to nothing some nights and next to nothing the rest of the nights. I did see one new young buck yesterday and another new young one this morning, so maybe they are starting to travel around.

Re: Live from Naca-no-where 2015..... - 11/23/15 04:56 PM

And from the camera my little rug rat helped put out. Told him to find a spot on the ground with no leaves (he pointed out there's no leaves on the sand bar in the creek we have to drive through) and then I started showing him what I meant as we drove past scrapes on the trail, then we hit this spot and he wanted the camera to go there (mostly bc there were a lot of sticks and pin oak acorns on the ground for him to pick up). So we put the camera there.

Time is off, but lucky the camera even works

Top 2 are of the buck the dogs ran by me while I was sitting there checking the camera

That little 2yo 8pt, the 10 & the 6 are there every day usually twice a day.

A couple are new, nothing with much size to it though. Kind of expected some new on camera just from moving one across the creek that splits the place.

Hi STX, miss me? Deer wouldn't stay still for a picture. Not sure what I did to him to make him abandon me for all but a couple weeks of season this year when he's usually a Summer & Winter deer on the place, but apparently I upset him.
