Gimme Your Take - 03/11/15 02:14 PM

A while back I posted about what I believe to be a neighbor intentionally disrupting our deer hunting. I would ask for honest opinion as if you were my neighbor with what you see would be an issue for you... Our place is 65 acres divided by an private road. I am on good terms will all neighbors headed north. I dont know neighbors South of fence line. Past two years of disruptions are from the southwest/central side of property. Our place is beautiful and admittedly due to the clearing there are really no deer that bed down. This is low fence and most places there are small ~ 20-100 acre places. The stand pen/feeder "A" is 100 yards from the south fence line... We have always tried to be respectable neighbors in every way... What would be your take from info given... I had always thought if I put a stand on the fenceline parallel to south I would see more game but didnt want to do that. We would never shoot across property lines so I have never thought I have done anything to tick off neighbors.. On a good year we have taken maybe 2 deer a season .. 2 good bucks past 6 years... What would you do..? We have owned this land for over 30 years.. Last 2 only problem... I had GW out to check and he said we were fine with setup but your honest opinion appreciated...

I would hide some trail cams around the place and try to get a picture of him on the property. Also, I would go talk to him and see whats ups.

If you already did this and posted it in the other thread I apologize, I haven't read it.

Looks fair IMO, but have know idea of what, or how your neighbor has been interfering. You could possibly move the southern stand near the road and move the feeder accordingly, if you so choose.

Exactly, what is the nature of the disruption you are asserting..From your perspective, things look fine to me.

Basically, this are quiet all year long and I can confirm as we are out there alot all year. For the past two seasons during hunting hours there are chainsaw, 4 wheelers riding fence lines and bursts of gunshots... Its silent all afternoon .. only an issue in morning and evening.. GW went over one day and said there was "some" cutting that had been done .. however not likely to justify 2 seasons of chainsaws .. very questionable.. Google earth photos are from last october and dont show anything to me that would justify..

Any case.. another pic.. more details...

I think you are SOL - I know why you are frustrated but it would be hard to stop someone from chainsawing on their own property nor riding on their property with 4 wheelers. Maybe they are just anti hunting? Only option I can think of is to go talk to them to see if there is an issue

I don't think there is much you can do if they are on their property. I think I would stay closer to the fence line where you have a good relationship with the neighbors.

You may want to consider food plots that draw them that way. Don't know how viable that is.

When I lived in Georgia and hunted the Oconee, there was a Dr. That brought his full auto weapons tou a public range that bordered my hunting area. He was anti-hunting and would be there the first week of rifle season every year.

I would hunt about a mile or so behind him and every year got a couple of deer. I think he may have sent them my way.

My point is there could be a silver lining.

I am pretty direct and would have a non-confrontational conversation with him. At least that way you know what is going on. Who knows, maybe it is not intentional. Doubt it, but maybe.

I would move that feeder to the left in the photo, towards the west fence. Enough to hide it from those idiots view. The deer can come in from other directions. I'd leave the stand there. Use their noise as a "funnel". You will still benefit from a southerly wind and will also gain for north winds which you have jeopardized the way it is.

I would ask your neighbor if he has any issues with you hunting. If he does it could be a simple misunderstanding. It could be that he doesn't like you shooting towards his property.
Invite him over for a beer and BBQ and try and become his friend.
If he drinks beer or whisky buy him a case or a bottle and deliver it the night before opening morning.
Invite him over for a steak dinner that evening. If he doesn’t drink then just steak dinner.
Do you have fish in your tank? If so invite him over to go fishing up

yes you guys right.. With the land layout I am not sure who the owner is but with the last google picture I have an idea of the where the house is it appears there are trails .. Last time I was on an evening hunt I got out of blind.. called really loudly .. I could hear their vehicles stop and idle 20-30 yards away .. they would not respond to my calls... A short time later they went up and down the property line shooting around 100 rounds of pistol shots... I also found an oily rag tied to a bush on our side of property... This year I have gotten on a lease and I will just continue trying to sort the issue.. At least now I have options. I think they either think we are stealing their deer or are anti hunting..

Doesn't matter IMO, if you catch them over your fence tying crap on things, I'd have the warden educate them. I would have trail cams out just for those DA's.

Bring him some fresh backstrap and tell him a story about how the noise from the chainsaws/ATV's really push the deer onto your property and make them bed down there. Ask him if you can make arrangements for someone to drive the deer to your spot next weekend when you have your boss/family/VIP coming down to hunt. Guarantee he won't be there next weekend. Works everytime.

I think Pope and Young nailed it. If that doesn't work, you at least did the right thing.

A lot are saying there is nothing you can do.......film it next time, then call the GW and talk with him and show the video. I would believe it is hunter harassment

Take up bow hunting and he will never know thou are there, unless you wound a deer and it gets on his property. Really no reason to call him for that either, since you pretty much know that he will not allow for you to look for a wounded deer.

Honestly dude, there is not much you can do with such a small place and so many neighbors. A lot of suggestions above really take the fun out of hunting and IMO just ain't worth it at the end of the day. If it where me, I would sell the place and hunt your lease or just live with what I had and enjoy it the best I could. You don't go hunting to be a detective, you go hunting to enjoy the moment and right now sounds like there is more worry than enjoyment.
