stupid weather - 01/08/15 04:06 AM

Headed to cotulla tommorow. Won't be there tell late, so I will be hunting Friday, Saturday sunday morning. It looks like it will be raining Friday, and Saturday with a chance of ice. It's my only oportunity. Anybody have luck hunting in this weather. Other bad part if it gets to wet we won't be able to get back to the feeders.

Same thing happened to me last week in Falfurrias. Movement was scarce unless hunting hogs but as soon as it cleared up the bucks were on the move.

Good luck

Yes they move great during rains and cold weather. The rut makes them do strange things. Can you walk to your back feeders?

It's actually my brothers- n laws place and he tells me it's way to far to walk and if they get even a little rain you can't make it back there even though I have 4 wheel drive. I'm willing to do about anything to figure something out. I've never have hunted south texas and have been very excited. I'm making a long drive from the dallas area.My brother shot a 151 inch ten point last weekend he rattled up.

How many acres does he own? Define "to far"? Grab a set of rattling horns and go to the deer. Walk/stalk hunt the deer. Right after Jan 1st was always the best time to rattle when I was in eastern La Salle County close to the county line.

Some folks don't like to have their pasture or roads tore up they don't want you to have your 4x4! I would suggest a 4 wheeler etc. much more capable in the mud than a pickup and wont tear stuff up as bad. When we rut up our roads we just pull the disc over it when they dry out and its all good again.

It also depends on where in La Salle County the ranch is. That clay on the eastern part is hard to get around in even with an ATV/UTV as it will just ball up on the tires and under the wheel wells.
