1-1-15 Target Buck Down!!! - 01/03/15 01:35 PM

I finally got my 2nd target buck down of the season. I've hunted this deer relentlessly all season. I have hundreds of pics of him, but 99% of them were at night. Finally, with the help of 2 days of ice, snow, and temps in the teens, he came out just a few minutes earlier than normal. The Grim Reaper Whitetail Special made the 60 yard blood trail in the snow pretty easy to follow. It's been a slow but great year, and I feel really lucky to have a shot at this old guy with my bow!

You tore him up! That broadhead worked great! An extra tip of the cap, because I wouldn't be out with my bow in that weather. Congrats on a great job!

Thanks for all the comments! That 2" GRWS really opened him up. I couldn't be prouder of this one. It was a horribly slow year except for those two 30-second windows where my whole season came together!

It actually goes back to October of last year (2013) when my brother passed on this deer. I thought he was crazy since on our 300 acre west Texas lease, a 137" 8 is the biggest deer we've ever even gotten a picture of. This year, this buck added the split on his g2 and a few inches of frame. I wasn't going to let him walk, but he proved to be a bigger challenge than I expected.
