South Live Oak County - 12/22/14 03:01 PM

Went to the lease this weekend in South Live Oak County expecting to hit the rut and to my suprise still nothing yet. Necks are still normal size from the bucks i saw. Saw i really nice 8 point running a treeling checking scraps and i had 9 doe in the plot eating about 40 yards away and he paid them no attention acted as though they werent even there. Anyone else in the area experiencing this as well?

I was at Choke Canyon State Park yesterday(barely in McMullen across the Live Oak line). Saw a lot of does with very few bucks. I did see one mature buck that was on a mission traveling. I saw another mature buck that appeared run down already. If the rut has not started it is very close to breaking loose. I saw quite a bit of rubs and one buck had bark in his antler bases.

yeah i have seen alot of bucks recently and its seems they are ramping on and on a mission on scraps so i am sure it will cut loose real soon just seems a little later than what i was expecting but then again the weather has not helped out very much. I am hoping this cold front coming through this week will set it off.

Our lease (Three Rivers)killed two mature bucks the weekend after thanksgiving and they were both swoll up. BUt still haven't seen any chasing. The bucks are ready, the does will most likely be ready the next full moon.

I'm about 3 miles north off 281 East on FM 1042, I take 281 heading east of GW and turn north on 1042.

My Old buddy's ranch is in that area too.

Take the Dinero exit off 281, it's about 15 miles from George West.

The Ramarada runs through it.

2500 acres low fence.

I have hunted there 30 years.

But the last four years due to pipe line activity and the low numbers of deer, we have let the ranch rest.

Next year I will hunt it again.

Should haves some really big boys.

The low oil prices should put a hold on any new pipelines for a while
