nocturnal funk? - 12/21/14 02:50 AM

Any tip to getting the deer out of a nocturnal funk? Or does it just happen like a light switch? I figured with light winds, rainy, cool, and no moon this weekend they would be out durring the day. Nope my wife and I sat in the blind for 2 days and nothing in the daytime but by the trail cams they still come out around 1-3 A.M. we even slept in the blind. We have yet to see a deer in the daytime all season long. Im about to give up on this season. Somebody give me some hope, please!

Normally you could try eliminating your afternoon feeding throw or shorten the time of your throws however they don't need the corn much this year so may not help much. When they go nocturnal it's tough to get them off that cycle. If you haven't tried hunting mid-days, probably want to try that also hunt till last legal light and handcorn some spots on the brushlines away from feeders. Otherwise, good luck.

Ive already eliminated the evening throw and turned down the morning throw to 3 seconds. I will try hand throwing around brushlines and like I said we sat all day, night, and most of the next day. Thanks I appreciate all the help I can get in Eastland County

Start with corning any roads and trails. We also get old fruit from the grocery stores, dump in a few places. If you have any of last years unshelled pecans around, it is also time to get rid of them, spread them like corn.

I was at my BILs house yesterday. His ranch is in Comal county. Most all of his deer are at feeders around 12:00-2:30. Strange. Eastland is in cross timbers area with a lot of oaks in places. Could be acorns dropped and they don't have to move much. I've got the same problem in Erath with the nocturnal thing going on. Not sure there's anything you can do other than hunt at night peep

Lol my wife asks me if we can hunt at night everytime we go out.I guess Beef is a lot better than bread and water which is what we would be eating in my house for a long time if we were to get caught.

Kris - Its the same all over the general area. We're been discussing on the thread below. IMO its just a combination of the past years drought, and this year having no cold snap. They just dont need our corn that bad, definitely not in the day! Good luck for the rest of the season.

Thread here.

I hunt a timber company owned lease. It is covered in pine and I havent seen an oak tree yet. They hit my feeders at night and even then, not on a consistant basis. So I guess they've resorted to eating pine cones and pine needles. I've never seen anything like it. I hunted my uncle's place this past weekend and saw a lot of deer but they werent hitting the feeders very hard. Sunday morning, I saw about 15-20 deer, 7-8 of them were bucks....all at the same time! Only a couple even went to the feeder and then only stayed for a minute. The deer seemed restless. They would cross the field, then turn around and come back across. It's like they were walking in circles. Obviously the rut is either over or hasn't started, with that many bucks out together and not posturing.
