Let's Go Live...Night Version

Let's Go Live...Night Version - 11/20/14 02:21 AM

Every cool spell I ask my wife if she could make it out in the deer stand on a cold night and every time she says, "no". I've always loved camping and think I could survive a period of time out in the woods....so here I sit: be it I'm in a shelter. I ate supper and made a haul back here to the pasture. The blind is 6x9 so I have plenty or room. My full battle rattle includes: GI sleeping bag with shell, rifle and gear for the morning hunt, small cooler with a few waters, Diet Pepsi, cereal bars, a first generation NV monocular for entertainment and a jacket that will more than likely be used as a pillow. Current temp shows to be a cool 40. I have a few heaters in here and several bottles of propane so I shouldn't lose any of my toes. I'm sure I will want to get the heck up and out in the morning so this hunt just started.

You still on nights? If so, you'd better get your 2100 breathing treatments done.

Work Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Off Monday. Back to work Tuesday and Wednesday. smile

Saw two 150s go at it this am. It was a knock down drag out fight. One 10 only had 1/2 rack before the fight. He did get whooped though

Here is the HF monster I killed. I did shoot him with my new 6.8 SPC SBR. It took two down this week

Re: Let's Go Live...Night Version - 11/20/14 03:21 AM

I'm not hunting anything tonight. I just thought it would be fun to stay in the deer blind tonight. In the morning, I'll have no excuse to get up, pee and open the windows for a deer hunt. I'm just getting to my blind about 10 hours early. Let's see just how "fun" this will be.

I have pulled the all nighters before, broke it up with a little coyote calling a few times before 2am. I did have a propane operated coffee pot and those are super handy. Did find a good 5 gallon bucket with a few plastic shopping bags work great for a emergency crapper LOL

Hard part was fighting boredom if you cant sleep.

Re: Let's Go Live...Night Version - 11/20/14 04:03 AM

I've just always wanted to stay out here since I build my big blind two years ago. It's roomy and has 7 windows. I hung some cloth over the windows so I'm not blaring light everywhere. I usually open three windows while hunting so I'm not totally exposed. As for the crapper, I'll bail out of here and find a thicket to do my business. Besides, with all my gear I brought down here tonight plus my regular stuff, I don't have anywhere to put a crapper.

I recently sealed the door and it's not too bad. I bought an old Coleman heater at a garage sale for a $1, have another "homey comb" heater ($2) and a double bottle Buddy Heater ($75) so it's not too bad. It's up to 65 in here now and I'm only using the Coleman sparingly.

I figured I would have heard coyotes by now but nothing yet. There is a single tree branch between me and my feeder that needs to go....it's making a heck of a glare on my night vision.

It's time to crawl into the bag. Let's hope nothing gets me tonight. Morning can't come soon enough.

I've spent the night in my deer blind a few times, they were usually the result of too many Shiners or too much Makers. It's amazing how small a 4x4 stand is with a chair is when you are 6'2".

You did check for gremlins under the stand right? Same as at home, your bag will protect you just like a bed sheet roflmao GTG

Re: Let's Go Live...Night Version - 11/20/14 07:12 AM

No gremlins but I'm making a pillow the first thing on the list next time. Back to sleep . Even without a heater, the temps aren't too bad.

The cold drains my battery....I lost 40% in two hours.

I was hunting on Saturday morning when it was cold. My I Phone showed 63% battery. It then went to 0 for no reason.

Re: Let's Go Live...Night Version - 11/20/14 02:15 PM

I have to keep my phone close to my body in cold weather or it dies.

Re: Let's Go Live...Night Version - 11/20/14 02:34 PM

It lives!!! I made it. The sleeping bag had me sweating. It wasn't too bad except for the hard floor, and having had shoulder surgery in June, it was sure enough uncomfortable. My floor has a moisture barrier, carpet padding and carpet but it wasn't like a mattress by any means.

I woke up in time and didn't see anything. After I posted just after 0100, my phone only showed 1%, so the cold does drain the battery. Once I warmed it up I had 25%....lesson learned.

Not a thing moved but I'm heading in now. I have a list of honey do's to complete before Thanksgiving.

Even at 37, that made me feel like a kid again. Wouldn't do it every night but now my 5-year old wants to go with me.
