Why We Do It (Son's First Buck) - 11/10/14 01:09 AM
Took him on a spot and stalk right around noon. Driving around the mountains in the Ranger we spooked this 8pt up from his bedding. My son first took a hurried shot and missed. The buck went over the top of the mountain and so we followed. Upon getting on top the buck bolted from a bush about 100 yards ahead of us and finally stopped behind another bush about 200 yds out. I set the tripod up and asked my son if he felt comfortable with the shot. He nodded and grabbed my 7mm-08. 10 seconds later and one round less the buck was on the ground. Soon as we knew the deer was down my son couldn't stop jabbering, "My heart is about to pop outta my chest! Oh my Gosh! I'm shaking dad!"
Couldn't be more proud of my boy. Definitely gonna Euro this puppy and hang above his bed.
On another note...I can't wait for him to get bigger and begin helping me drag these deer down the mountains. Half-mile down ain't no joke!
