young 11-point?

young 11-point? - 11/09/14 12:29 AM

help me age and score. I can't believe it, but I think this 11-point is just 2.5! I also think he's closer to 140 than 130. If I'm close, that's amazing genetics.

Possible 2 or 3 but only gonna score about 110" but he is a nice young deer

I figured all those tines would get him up there, decent width and mass, but 9 points to add up. you may be right that I'm high, but I see 120 at minimum.

Re: young 11-point? - 11/09/14 12:59 AM

I just kinda did it quick, but here is my thoughts
G-1-3"
2- 5"
3-5"
4-2"
MB 18"
H1-4"
H2-4"
H-3 -3"
H-5 3"
X2 = 94"
+ width 16"= 110 + kicker 2" 112"

2.5 and no way he can touch an inch over 125 IMO

Re: young 11-point? - 11/09/14 01:12 AM

I see around 110-112 and 2 yr old. Beams might push him a bit higher but can't judge them from the front angle.

I appreciate it. Just excited first daytime buck I've seen at new place. He will be a pretty one in a couple years. Neighbor took a 175 last year, so the genetics are around.

Few years if he survives, he will be a stud.

I agree you have the genetics. No shame in being excited. I'd be really happy too with a 2 yr old like that.

this guy showed up last night at the same feeder, I think a tad older and bigger, but not shooter yet.

You need a weed eater or better yet a brush hog around that feeder.

it is a new setup, didn't have time to do much except keep the cam from taking false photos.

Ok, here's another picture of him! Please tell me he's too young or small because I want to stick tomorrow morning! he's showing up in morning shooting light.

He has a head like a Père David's deer. Lot of neck and shoulder mass also.

You're use to Kansas weights, your deer in that area should be 175-185@ maturity

he seems to have a solid mature body.

now for antlers my personal minimums are 130-140 for 8-point. He appears to be a 9, but mainframe 10 and I just don't seem him in that 140-150 range. I think he's a mature 130 inch deer that probably has a couple years improvement. if he's a little older and bigger in person, it may be a good deer for my mom.

anyone on this 3rd deer?

Re: young 11-point? - 11/12/14 06:42 PM

I would guess mid to upper 120's and 4 yo, maybe even younger as the hocks are still pretty light colored. I would definitely pass on him as he looks to have great potential.

very good! that's one I ground checked, my 2012 Kansas buck. laugh he was 3.5 and rough green was 143" and dry official was 141". However, with the severe and tight wrap he fools everyone. He looks like a 130" deer, even the official scorer with it in his hands guessed mid-130's before he measured.

why did I arrow him? best deer we had on camera and it was my largest at the time. we were also getting the property ready to sell and that deer plus the bigger one my mom shot helped the value tremendously.

Let him grow will be a even better buck next year

Re: young 11-point? - 11/13/14 02:53 PM

Here are pics of Buck #2, I agree he's not over 125, but this is 1st year on a long term management plan and there are 170 genetics in the area. Do you think this buck is 4.5+ (maybe 5.5) and needs to be culled out? My mom is hunting opening of rifle next Saturday and this would be a great buck for her if he's not going to get much bigger.

Re: young 11-point? - 11/13/14 02:59 PM

Rob, he sure looks 4.5-5.5 to me in those photos, nice heavy antler too. It's your Mom man, I say let her take him, I doubt she will do much to change the mechanics on your place, for the thrill she will get up

Re: young 11-point? - 11/13/14 06:13 PM

I think that 9 point is old enough to shoot. He's got a huge body and looks mature to me. I doubt he's going to get much better as far as antlers are concerned.

got a new mature buck, call him #4. laugh at first thought he was the same as #2, but he's different. showed up last night 1 am feeder half mile away. Haven't seen #2 for 3 days.

First time I've seen anyone post about having a minimum for a certain number of mainframe points. What are your standards for 10 and 12 pointers?

up there into the 150 range. it really depends though more on maturity, a 135 8-point > 135 10-12 point IMHO.
