Longview 8 pt down

Took a 8 pt tonight. All I had with me was my 223 ... I was expecting hogs and he stepped out.. shoulder shot messed his night up 55 gr vmax.

Congratulations. We saw a couple of small bucks the other day while out for a walk on our place that got us more excited about opening day. They where way too small to be legal, but it's just nice seeing antlers!!! Hopefully we'll have something like yours show up here in Tyler.

Eddie that is exciting seeing antlers. we also have a nice 10 pt on property that is missing a big chunk of his ear. 3 other smaller 8 and one very nice and heavy 8 but only see game cam pics of the rest. this is the first 8 I have see in day light while in my stand. 2 small bucks came out around 7 and hung around for maybe 5 min and something spooked them they left and 5 min later here they come again. so as I was looking at em through my binocs the 8 showed up out of no where. I came out with only my ar cuz I was getting hit with hogs and had a bobcat on cam. that 55 gr vmax busted his shoulder up something bad. he stumbled after the shot but never ran and I found him 50 ft from where I shot him. he had all kinds of bones and meat sticking out of his shoulder. I know 223 is not the best thing to use but I guess you can say I got lucky this trip. cant wait to get my 6.5x55 back though!

Nice looking buck. what part of Longview did you kill him at? I bow hunt on my property just north of town on FM 2751 just north of Doris McQueen school.

There are some real nice bucks in that area, obviously heavily pressured, but there always seems to be some good ones taken from that area every season.

I am at my place in Baylor County tonight. Not much going on here this weekend...
