We have a lease out there it's real green right now so they have a lot to eat. Give it a couple more weeks and a freeze would help.

Brandon I live in Hunt County. Had 2 young bucks,4 points, chasing does in my front yard this morning. Also had a spike with 1 broke off spike. But I have does in my front yard every morning, had 8 this morning.
Here is a shot of the little guys after they got done running everybody off.

Here is an 8 pt. that walked out in the yard a few minutes ago. His left side is pretty much all broken off and he has a hole in his neck on the left side. If you look real close under his left ear you can see something sticking out of the hole. Pretty good fight I guess. They are starting to rut pretty good I guess.

South of Quinlan, my cameras have been active since Oct 27th. Does, 4pt and last night had 2 x 8pts show up in the same pic. One looked 4 1/2 yrs and the other looked 2 1/2 yrs.
Tomorrow morning cannot get here soon enough.

Brandon what part of Hunt County are you in? The bucks are moving pretty actively and chasing does. I had 3 on opening morning in my yard, but of course I was in San Angelo at my deer lease. This is what my wife sent me while I was at lease.

Went this morning south of Quinlan and got a 10pt at 9am. He came out to the feeder alone but there was activity behind him in the trees. Had heavy dark glands. Believe rut is nearly over, seeing more activity at the feeder last few days. Same deer showed up on the camera last night at 11:15pm and at 5am last Friday.

Re: Hunt County report? - 11/28/13 02:44 PM

Had two bucks chasing does all through the morning yesterday starting around 8 am. At about 11:30 a nice 8 chased the smaller bucks off the does. The does are moving by themselves which indicates they are doed up with bucks. I would say the rut is pretty close to winding down. Not to much hitting the feeders, mainly hand spread corn. We throw corn out in the front yard so my wife can watch the deer, and we have a lot of does come in grouped up normally, but right now it's 1 or two together. But the rut is definitely not over yet.

Out between Campbell and Commerce, I have been seeing lots of does and fawns, small bucks were still in groups two weeks ago.

I had a visitor though. Appears that they found themselves on my cam, took card out, went home and deleted two weeks worth of pics ( including the ones that showed them), and returned my card to the cam. Only thing showing on the card was Saturday morning at 10:19 (some stray cows). Looks like my son missed them by about two hours from when he went to pull the card. I hate ignorant people. At least though, they did leave my camera and returned the card.....

I was in the right place, rubs and scrapes in abundance with trails and tracks in all directions. I hunted from before daylight until dark most days so the deer had to be nocturnal where I was hunting. I know of one doe that was killed there.
Posted By: gunslinger922

Re: Hunt County report? - 04/01/16 10:49 PM

Lots of deer on our place near Wolfe City but primarily nocturnal bucks and with only 4 days to hunt doe we scored a big zero! Luckily we have a lease in the Hill country with more deer than we can handle
Posted By: sig226fan (Rguns.com)

Re: Hunt County report? - 04/02/16 02:07 PM

I live and drive in northern hunt county every day, and I can't believe that people pay to hunt deer here. Around Wolfe City, there are still so few deer that when a local sees one, they call and tell people. Sure there are some, and I know there are some taken, but I wouldn't pay for it right now. Wish we could let them grow a few more years.
