Ya ever see anything totally new? - 10/07/13 08:18 PM

My wife, son and I were walking out to one of the trail cams the other day to switch a card and check a feeder. While walking out, two large does jump a fence looking away from us. We all froze. They looked back around toward us, blew at us and took off. Well, I have experienced that before...in one fashion or another. The thing that was amazing was the visual on the blow...

Those does blew at us SO hard...I could see snot/vapor shoot out at least 3 or 4 feet like spraying a garden hose. Kind of cool...and kind of gross also...LOL

That's pretty cool. Is that more of a warning to other deer or is it them clearing their sinus cavity to get a better smell.

We had a brush fire burn our entire place a couple years ago. We didn't get any rain for a month or so and the deer had nothing but corn and protein to eat(this is completely low fence but the deer never left)

You should see and hear 16 deer tying to fight over 3 feeding ports on a protein feeder. They made multiple noises I didn't know deer could make, were biting each other by the ears and trying to pull others heads back kicking and bucking. It was crazy to watch!

I sat the opener of bow season on the ground by a feeder. No deer but was covered up in quail. It was interesting to see them running around strutting like little turkeys, had never seen anything like it before either.

I watched a buck make a scrape about 40 yds away from me last year, that was pretty cool. Never saw him after that day, so I figure he got plugged by someone else in the area.

My wife made out to the lease for the first time on sunday. She was sooooo worried about getting bored but had a blast and ready to go back.

One of the coolest things I ever saw was while sitting at the edge of the south rim of the Chisos Mountains in Big Bend. Two hawks---I think one was a Red Tail, didn't know what the other one was, they were having an aerial battle over territory, I suppose. I don't think they were much more than 100 feet out there in front of us. They'd fly toward each other like a game of chicken and then invert and maneuver trying to get the best of each other with talons extended. Didn't see a single feather fall, but it was an awesome show.

Same here. Amazing how many different vocal signals they can make.

One of mine was on a mule deer hunt. I climbed almost to the top of a large ridge that over looked a canyon and was glassing. I could hear a plane coming off in the distance, but didn't think much about it. Well, it got there faster than I thought. The fighter jet was flying below me and passed relatively close to my side of the mountain. You could "feel" the sound as much as hear it. It shakes the side of a mountain and will roll a few rocks. I would say that was the first and possibly the only time I will be looking down to watch a jet fly by that close.

I think I figured it out here is the fight I was no more than 10 feet away. Sorry no video I had camera messed up but the audio is good.
