Re: My Whitetails. - 11/30/12 03:21 AM
The last two pictures are the same, and I agree that none of them are near to the 190 - 200 scores you are quoting.
Those deeraree north of the red... 230-250 live weight
Think you missing a pic only two bucks
I can seen them over 170 though for sure..
Great deer
This deer is a stud pushing 40mass and probably 26" +beams

Awesome bucks! My buddy posted a pic of a buck on here, shot during bow season. He had several guys chime in on what the buck would measure. Most of them were off by 15" or more. A pic can make a big deer look small, or small buck look huge. Those are some trophy whitetails right there!

But pictures do jack showing a bucks true size. That top buck green scored 199. And that's without the 8ths of a point, added up.
None the less they are good bucks and meat on the table!

X2 You can tell the mass of that buck is huge and goes almost all the way out; given that your holding a shotgun in the pic I take it Iowa, wisconson?
I dont know about the scores but you can tell the bodies are huge and that can make the rack look smaller....
I posted a pic of me with a 200lbs 140" 8pnt on here and got bashed ...."THATS NOT 200lbs &140" crowd ...until I posted a pic with a 12yo holding the buck.

Well, I paid $5250 for the so called 200 class deer. Problem is, shot a 173 off him earlier(knew before hand the buck was in the 170's) for $3000.
Unless if you have those type of prices, I guess a real 200' buck is just a thing to dream about.

Re: My Whitetails. - 12/13/12 10:05 PM
So give the details!
Where, outfitter, etc
Well I went to DD Ranch in Southern Ohio. Where normally I have a good time and get an animal that is the size of what the owner says it is. I shot the two bucks which he said would be in the 170's and the high 180's/190's respectively. Well the 170's one scored 173(Officialy Scored people) and the high 180's/190's one scored 192. Well this year I decided to book another whitetail hunt with em. He mentioned he had a 200 class typical main frame 12 pointer that might score 210'. Well needless to say after the hunt I was very happy and a few weeks latter my taxi scored it and it scored only 178. 178? Wait, what happened to this 200's class buck? He scored him 3 times with 178 coming out of him. Well in the end I ended up paying $5250 for him. Problem is I paid $3000 for the 173 and $4500 for the 190.

Found this online...
"The ranch itself is two parcels, about 120 acres each, divided by a high fence. The reason for the division, as explained to me by the owner, is to prevent the very large animals, like Buffalo and Watusi, to wander into the steep west side of the property. The west side is too steep for tractors to venture into. Hence the division. The west side is where the pigs, goats and sheep were, and yes, it's very steep. You will get a workout. The terrain is very open with steep ravines. The east side is flatter with a bit more cover."

If all this money you talk about like its a drop in the bucket I'm sure you could get some African and European hunts for your birthday and hunt these super exotics you talk about in there native habitats?

Uhh none. I've hunted all my axis in central Texas
And DHR, I don't have the patience to sit that long for 12 hours on a plane.
And nope just got my boar. Furry as a mammoth

Re: My Whitetails. - 12/15/12 07:18 PM
Well listen, he's obviously a kid and I can't fault him for hunting on daddy's dime. Hopefully one day his definition of a 'trophy' changes - and it's more about the experience than the measurement. I'm 47, just got my first Whitetail this season and he probably scores 120". I still get amped up thinking about everything that led to that moment. When you work hard for what you get youngman, you'll appreciate it so much more.

Did you read what I said above? That place you've been going to is the worst sort of put-and-take place. You really need to talk your father into going somewhere else.

Re: My Whitetails. - 12/15/12 10:51 PM
'Worst sort'. What makes you think so?
Up in Ohio we don't have the luxury of 1000 acres. We don't have the luxury of raising herds of African game due to weather.

Re: My Whitetails. - 12/15/12 11:18 PM
Worst sort because on 120 acres they offer the following animals: blackbuck, eland, muntjac, nilgai, wildebeest, bison, water buffalo, watusi, javelina, hogs, axis, fallow, sika, whitetail, elk, red stag, angora goats, aoudad, arapawa rams, merino rams, black hawaiian rams, corsican rams, desert paint sheep, tahr, ibex, mouflon, catalina goat, Texas Dall rams, zebu, yak, and zebra!
That must mean they buy from breeders whatever the client is coming to hunt. This is put-and-take at its worst!
I'll bet you CAN find much larger places to hunt where they only have whitetails that live year round on the property.

Re: My Whitetails. - 12/15/12 11:52 PM
Actually I did. There was another place. It was one of the most exhilirating, fun, memorable hunts in my life. Took me 5 days before I finally harvested a 158 class 9 point. The deer bred out there and lived out there.
But I paid like $4500 or so for a 150's class deer at the place. DD had them for $1500-2000. My dad said it is better to his wallet.

What you guys don't seem to realize is that the kid is just answering your questions, probably because he is a narcissistic personality type but maybe because he hasn't matured enough to realize he doesn't have to, and so he's been led into talking about his family's wealth, etc. All he volunteered at the start was the photos of three whitetails. The rest was "drawn" out of him.
Let's guide him into hunting at places that provide real hunting, and get him to understand it isn't all about the length of antlers.

I've shot small bucks and does and am perfectly happy with them. My first Ohio whitetail was a 3 point which was 4 years ago.
Most of our deer herd up here is dying due to a strange CWD-like disease.
I shoot a 300 WSM. most often but for whitetails I use a 12. Gauge.
Congrats on the deer. I wouldn't turn down those hunting opportunities either! Is Canada a hunting option for you?

Ohio Department of Natural Resources

Re: My Whitetails. - 12/16/12 06:26 PM
He said "CWD like" probably referring to EHD.
Posted By: postoak
Re: My Whitetails. - 12/16/12 06:34 PM
But EHD isn't "CWD like", nor is it decimating the Ohio deer herds. From the same site.
EHD was confirmed in 2012 as the source of illness impacting deer in a few localized areas in Ohio. The disease is the most common ailment of deer in the United States. State animal health officials stress that EHD is NOT related to CWD. EHD does not affect humans, nor impact the safety of consumed deer. EHD is caused by the bite of an infected midge and once there has been a hard freeze, the insects die off for the winter, eliminating new cases of EHD.

I don't know what the deal is with some of the guys on this thread. All I hear is pure jealousy. This is a 16 year old kid who likes to go hunting with his father. I am sure most of you take, or at least would like to take your kids to the deer lease..should they have to pay for their own corn, or their portion of the lease fees? What if you have a family ranch that your 16 year old kid hunts at, do you make him pay to hunt there? What is the difference with this guys father taking him to a high fenced ranch so that they can enjoy that experience together? Most of you spend $1000's every year at the lease hoping to shoot a monster, but when Axis goes on a $3000 hunt he is suddenly spoiled? The kid makes good grades and his parents reward him for it, while making memories at the same time. This method is obviously working for them and I'm sure they expect that if he keeps the grades up he will be paying for his own hunts someday.

Kid, if you want a "real" hunt have your dad mail me a check for $315k and I'll sell you a piece of land in west Texas that will challenge your hunting skills and you will actually appreciate the animal you kill.

Well hardy Har Har, can't I share the trophies I have harvested without people getting bonkers. Look, us up in the Northeast/Midwest don't have the luxury of 10,000 acres. You would be lucky to even get 200 at most. Put and take, breeding herds, whatever. We can't raise our own African Game up here unless if you think we like our gazelle/oryx meat chilled on the hoof. We make up for that with our superior capes on our Cervid species like Fallow and Sika Deer with rams and goats.
I would hardly consider places recognized by SCI as 'canned hunts'.
"Recognized by SCI".
Boy that should help the argument. lol!
Personally, i think SCI is for rich folks who can afford $10,000 canned hunts and safaris. I'm betting not many regular Joes making $50-75k per year are members.
Face it, you'll get no pat on the back from the majority of the hunting population...which are made up of mostly those "regular Joe" folks and don't have an appreciation for canned hunts.
Personally, I would go on a "canned hunt" if afforded the opportunity. But...
I would have a hard time bragging about it. I'd more proud of the 120" 8pt hangin on my wall that was a bow kill off a 90 acre LF place in heavily pressured NE Texas.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the time you and your dad are spending. I also appreciate the fact that you enjoy hunting. I hope you keep that up for life. Just understand that most of these guys are gonna give you hell if your bragging on canned hunt animals.

Can't you post some more pics of bucks that you have added 20 or 30 inches to on the real score? Why arent you out hunting a wild deer instead of those pen raised deer you keep shooting?

Axis, i think people just misunderstand you a little, and others are jealous of how lucky you have been to hunt as much and many different species you have. You have been very fortunate and have killed some great animals. If you want it to stop quit posting on this thread!

Son, all I can tell you is that is not a Texas deer or your taxi stuck a bucks horns on a does cape. That deer doesnt even look real much less right, the necks way too skinny for a buck.
What ranch did you kill this buck at and what county is the ranch in? You have any pics of it right after you killed it? (the ones that might have blood in them).
For the record I am willing to admit when I am jealous and not jealous, in this particular instance I AM NOT JEALOUS. Curious about seeing in the field pics though.

Rather bragging about what was killed under questionable circumstances was
