Mule Diesel Silencer Question - 03/20/18 01:58 AM

Anyone ever put a silencer on a New mule diesel. Love the machine but would like to quieten it down a little but don't know if that's allowed on the Diesel.

I put a regular car muffler on my last Kubota. Also put a heavy bed mat in the bed. Helped a lot.

cos, if your mule is still under warranty might want to check with your dealer before you start making changes to the exhaust system to see if it affects coverage.

If you find out a way to quiet down your DX let us know how you did it. I like mine but would like it better if it was a little quieter.

I've read some stuff online where some folks with the gas models are adding extensions to the exhaust pipe and getting some reduction on noise...theory being that where it dumps out now causes some extra reverb inside the cab.

Was told at the dealership that it will not affect warranty if I take it to muffler shop and have a car muffler fitted on it. Just have to see whats available that will quiten it down without affecting performance and fit where the stock muffler is now.

I always thought people bought diesels to hear them roar.

Wait thirty days and you won’t hear it anymore. Considered it on my Gator until someone at deer camp bragged on how quiet it was.

Plus it will affect performance.

I can guarantee you the deer don’t care.

You buy diesel when you get fed up with gasoline engine problems. Really the only time a diesel is louder than gas is at idle. Seems to me once you start to work you have to run a gas engine harder so noise is about the same. And for sure you don't have to fuel up a diesel near as often which means less money and work for me and that makes that idle noise pretty insignificant.

Very true. I put over 3000 hours on my Kubota. I put a new fan belt and water pump and 3 sets of tires on it in 6 years. I got a new one last year and gave that one to my son who now uses it. And I took off the original muffler and welded on a car muffler. Helped the sound a lot. And I now have 1800 miles and over 250 hours on the new Kubota I bought in July of last year.

That may be true that the mule may be faster and quieter if it was gas, but the Kubota will still be running when the mule is in the grave. On places that the Kubota have been used the Deer would be running from the mule. Deer get used to what ever they see or hear the most throughout the year.
