Foaming tires

I just got back from a quail hunt near Beeville. My host had a Ranger which had foamed tires. I brought my Gator.



He promised me that I would have multiple punchers and maybe a flat. We would have taken his Ranger but my dog box would not for in the Ranger's smaller bed. We had to hunt out of my Gator. My tires are full of thorns, but I know not to pull them out. I think I would have my tires foamed if I hunted that area more often.

Ever had yours dons? Approve of them?

I have never done an ATV tire but sell construction equipment that gets foam filled tires. Don't do it. It will make your ride extremely rough, wear out your suspension, and tear up your front end. The flex of pneumatic tires absorbs the shock loads, and when there is no flex, stuff breaks.

Get an industrial grade tire sealant. The tires will have to be removed from the rims for install, but it is well worth the hassle/cost.

go to Essex Tires & get their cevlar tires ... Never worry again ..

Stay away from foaming tires, will add an incredible amount of weight and will develop flat spots. I highly recommend Essex tires like throckmroton_hunter

I have seen it done but they only foam a spare set of rear tires. To much weight to do all of them. They only leave the rears on with foam when hunting in bad thorny country. Run regulars the rest of the time.

I have had the tires on my Rhino slimed since day one and have never had a flat. I recently installed Essex Tires and again had them slimed.

I foamed the front tires on both of my tractors due to all the flats. The weight increase is significant!!! For my tractors, it was the best money spent ever. I wouldn't do it on my Kawasaki Mule. While I haven't had a flat on it in three and a half years of owning it, I would go to a better quality tire over foaming them if it became an issue.

I went on a hunt near Sonora TX last year and the guide had a Mule Pro with stock tires that where very impressive. He drove over everything and anything from cactus, to scrub brush, small trees and thousands of sharp rocks. At the end of the day, the tires looked dirty, but not damaged. There are tires, and then there are TIRES!!!!

There's a tire the border patrol uses, over $300 a tire, supposed to be the best tire made. Slime will not work in my area. I have 20 ply airplane tires I my tractor.

Foaming the Gator tires will add a remarkable amount of weight on the ground, know that. My front tractor tires are narrow, and foam filled. It takes two guys to handle them, but no flats since foaming. On your quail rig, it might just be a plus. The ride may be suspect as the tires will not flex and the total weight will increase affecting gas mileage and top speed/acceleration. You will need a helper to handle a foam filled Gator tire. Foam filling tires is expensive too.

My 825I crosses rougher country than your quail fields. My tires are slimed with green slime from TSC. Mesquite and cactus have not produced a flat yet.

A little off topic but I think a helpful PSA. IF you slime your tires and IF they need to be dismounted from the rim by a tire shop for whatever reason, tell them the tires have slime in them! They HATE busting a bead on a tire not knowing it's slimed. That stuff can go everywhere. I even write "SLIMED" in tire marker above the valve stem in case the guy I tell isn't the one breaking them down.

I have my 4X4 Kubota TLB tires foamed.
Takes almost 2 people to handle the front tires.
Back tires take forklift to move....if you are rolling it and it starts to fall over just get out of the way.
A day shreading with it will kill your back but you can drive thru [censored] that makes slime have nightmares....shreading mesquite fields 6' tall is a cakewalk though.

That being said, the other tractor and all the utility vehicles driven around off road here have slime in them.

To expensive... adds to much weight for UTVs even some tractors.. they have to be done to new tires if you want them to last... na ill pass
