Silverado Parts - 02/16/16 03:21 PM

Just got back a 98 Z71 that I bought new and looking to get it back in shape. Anyone have a good source that they've used for parts for these trucks?

LMC trucks or rock auto would be a good start

Be very careful with ALL online parts houses. The only exception is LMC and because they are typically higher.

Nothing wrong with rock auto. They sell the same things you buy at all the auto parts places in town at half the price.

Incorrect sir, rock auto and parts geek make auto zone look like Napa. Like always, when it comes to automotive topics you can tell me I'm wrong all day long. There is no replacement for experience and I have been a mechanic by trade for over 25 years.

LMC has quality parts they are just priced high. The other three JUNK JUNK JUNK and try to get a warranty from rock auto or parts geek. Good luck with that LOL!!!'

Rock Auto is fine. You can have your choice of different manufacturers for parts, including OEM. It's my go to for parts, especially OEM. Much cheaper than a dealer.

Depending on the parts, there's a junkyard in Waco on Old Marlin Highway out by the sale barn that spcializes in 88-98 GM trucks.

What kinds of parts are you talking about? Just for front end stuff I can get all MOOG problem solver stuff at rock auto half the price of O reilly.

I put a set of tie rod ends on a 94 k2500 a few years ago. Just picked up the lifetime warranty ones from AutoZone. When I unboxed them saw they were MOOG. Not sure if they all are, but those were.

Thanks but no luck necessary. I already have the proof!

So how is rock auto junk if they sell the same stuff the dealership or any auto parts store does at half the price? I

Argue with a mechanic about automotive parts, the box and part number may be the same but.... I assure you the parts are not. The OP ask for advice and I gave it, good luck with EBay, RockAuto, Parts Geek and Autozone. Just like most Snap on tools there IS a difference.

Re: Silverado Parts - 02/19/16 03:57 AM

I guess that's why mechanics are so expensive. Buy the part at the most expensive place roflmao

I'm not a professional but I've done enough to know the difference in quality and for parts I'd buy on Rock auto they are the same exact thing I would buy at oreilly and no joke almost half the price. Moog inner tie rods were 28 online and 54 at oreilly. Outers were 42 vs 82 and oreilly doesn't even have the upper arms.

I fail to see how two parts the exact same are different quality because one cost more.

Except for widows and unmarried women I make the vehicle owner get the parts. If you make me get the parts I charge you $50 and you know that up front. I have no problem getting the part numbers and the parts store is irrelevant except the three listed above. If you bring me parts from those three there is no warranty on the labor.

This is like saying if I buy a tool from Snap On's website, and I buy a tool off a Snap on truck, they make look the same but they are different. Which we know isn't true.

I can assure you the Ford parts I buy off Rock Auto are exactly the same as the Ford parts I buy from the dealer.
