1964 Jeep CJ 5 - 09/30/15 03:13 PM

Bought a 64 CJ-5 that has an old Ramsey R-50 winch on the front. Will probably tinker with it a bit and then sell. Any thoughts on what it is worth and I hear the winch is a collectors item. Don't know much about these old Jeeps so any comments would be appreciated.

I hate to be blunt but ask the people that say it is a collectors item what it is worth. then sell it to them.

Looks like if it is a correct Ramsey 50R, the winch alone could bring up to $5K!!! eek

Splitting the two would probably bring top dollar...

I would but they are making these statements on the internet, not in person. I guess to someone it might be a treasure, to me not so much.

That would have to be totally insane to pay that kind of money for an old original winch. Maybe the insides are plated in 24k gold haha.

Seems like almost anything is collectible to somebody anymore. I don't know squat about the winch, but as to the value of the Jeep, it all comes down to the condition. If it's in original, unaltered, undamaged unrusted condition, you might have something. Otherwise...

Potential appeal to collectors aside, for some reason it seems that old Jeeps always bring a higher price in Texas than they do in other parts of the country, so you have that going for you.

That blows what little mind I have left. Have to look closer at it when the garage has it lined out for me.

Wow, I was going to be a non-contributing poster as well, but I guess it's double dumbass on me! smile

I'd be patient and ask a few questions to see what you really have. Here's another site of collectible jeep folks that could help and maybe find an interested buyer.

My father passed away recently and I have his '52 M38A1 to sell is how I found them.

Good find and good luck!
