Who can work on Jeeps

I'm down in the Waco area, but I can pull it back to DFW area if needed. Just won't stay charged. Something is draining battery dead in 2 days. I took it in to a place and they put in a new alternator even though I told them that was not the problem. So, now it sits in a field dead as a door nail.

What year Jeep? Have you tried a different battery? Killing a known good battery in 2 days via some kind of electrical leak is quite the leak. Are you beyond confident you don't have a short in the battery?

I'm not beyond confident at all with this jeep or what may be causing the problem. It's a 74 or 75 cj. (I think). I have not tried a different battery. This one about 2 years old.

At full tilt it probably drew 40 amps or so not much by today's standards. Confirm your battery is good, then pull one side of all the non-essential fuses (heater blower, wipers, radio, etc.), if it sits and makes it a few days ( or keep an on eye on battery level if you have it with you) you know the culprits and can start to individually bring them back online until you find the problem circuit. Running the circuits down individually won't be fun if the above doesn't work.

Good chance it is a s simple as the battery. Those old jeeps are pretty simple but there are a lot of people that screwed the wiring up too! What does the wiring harnesses look like?

Battery, new cables.. Clean your connection points at all wiring mainly the frame were the ground connects from the battery. Power shut offs are very easy to instal also.. I do it to all my old equipment or put a gator clip on the ground connection. So you can unhook the battery when your done with it..

If you are in the metroplex, Reems Auto Electric in the Arlington/Dalworthington Gardens area are great with stuff like that. I have a 90 YJ that was doing something similar. The battery had been replaced as well as the alternator. I knew something was pulling a charge off the battery but couldn't find it. Reems checked all my wiring in the engine bay and apparently something wasn't grounded and it was pulling a slow charge from the battery. I think it cost me about $50.

Just for a funny story...

I bought a Honda accord from a guy for $300 because it drained the battery. He said the A/c didn't work but I was cool with it, it was a beater car in college. When I got in the car I noticed the A/C control was turned on, I turned it off and never had a problem with it killing the battery again

I'm experiencing the same thing with a 97 Cherokee I bought for the lease. Had a new battery, wires, etc when I bought it. When I get to the lease I have to jump it and it works fine for the 4-7 days I'm there, but I have to jump it off next time out. It's a beater with no radio and such so I haven't put much effort into it but this post has me thinking it's maybe a ground issue.
