They call him peewee - a mini Praying Mantis

While moving some items in camp a few weeks ago, I spotted a baby Praying Mantis. It was on a pipe wrench laying on a table. The winds were up 20-25 mph constant and this little guy was just standing there like he owned the place.

It is certainly the smallest Mantis I've ever encountered, what do they eat when they are this small!

Probably mites at that stage.

That's real neat, I think that's the smallest one I have ever seen as well.

I don't think he can even use that wrench.

He thinks he's a giant though. Those critters have some attitude. I was outside one day and an adult clamped down on my big toe with his front legs and chewed away like it was corn on the cob. I finally kicked him off but he bowed up again so I went into the house.

Well, that is a better ending but it would have taken a slug to finish that guy. lol

So, I got home yesterday and there was a small one sitting on the hydrant I needed to use. He tried to stare me down with those alien eyes but after a brief tussle I had him scampering on his way. I bet we're not through yet though.
