Florida Part-1 Emerald & West Coast - 06/03/18 12:08 PM
After spending most of the day packing and loading SpitFire and I hit the road about 11:30 Saturday night May 19th. Driving thru Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama overnight we entered Florida about 9:30 Sunday morning and began our adventure. We arrived back home Monday the 28th at 11:15 (15 min short of being gone exactly 9 days) having driven 3,820 miles!
The plan was to drive across the north coast, down the west coast, across the everglades to the keys, then up the east coast to the Okefenokee swamp, and then head west back across the upper part of the panhandle towards home.
We stopped at the first state park and bought an annual pass using it to visit many parks throughout the trip. We had rain every day....mostly an just occasional light shower, but did encounter a couple of serious downpours.
In spite of the weather we had a great time and only missed seeing a couple of thing because of it....mostly some parks in the panhandle, a few stretches of coastline, and most unfortunate, we were not able to go out to the Dry Tortugas...which was highly disappointing.
I prefer to travel back roads, state highways, scenic routes, avoiding interstates and cities as much as possible.
I have separated the pictures into regional areas.....Emerald and West Coast! The Glades! The Keys! East Coast! and The Swamp! of which each will have its own thread.....
