OUT WITH A BANG....LAST POSSIBLE SECOND. - 01/08/18 05:17 AM
Made the last trip of the season for one last day of hunting. My brother hunted with me this morning before he had to head home. I stayed and hunted this evening for one last hunt. I had a small group of bucks come in early around 3 and then nothing until around 5.
I had one doe step out that had an injured right front leg but I didn’t want to chance a shot at 200 yards with the wind gusting so bad and possibly wounding her even more. Just before dark I could hear hogs squealing but they never showed. It started to get too dark to see with the binos so I packed up for one last walk to the truck.
Just as I got to my North feeder I stopped briefly and could hear movement in the brush. I continued to walk before stopping again and this time I could hear pigs as they made their way to a water trough in my area. I got behind a big oak and got within about 30 yards of them. I dialed the scope down and got one in my sights and scanned the trough for a bigger one.
A large sow was making her way into the road so I clicked off the safety and quickly sent a round her way. As the muzzle flashed and the other hogs ran off then began to growl I gathered my things and walked to where she was standing. Blood everywhere and a quick 20 yard track this sow ended my 2017-18 hunting season with a bang!!!
