Trail of Tears - 10/28/17 07:19 PM

blistering 25mph winds and sand blasting dirt is about as good as the hunting gets. reapir was flawless in 20% humidity. nothing, and i mean NOTHING knows you're closing in. we were invisible, moving about at will and filling our insatiable appetite for killing hogs. and we would need everything in our favor to find and slaughter a ghost herd that had eluded us for the last three hunts. after they gave us the slip last week, they completely wiped out a quarter of a peanut circle. somebody was going to pay... with blood.

i'm using a trijicon mk3 and my bud has a mk2. needless to say, seeing was not a problem. the vid is a compilation of all the stalks and kill shots from the night. first herd got 8. second herd got 9. then i picked off a single out the window.

the ghost herd tends to show up late, gorge themselves and leave quickly. we scoured the countryside until we found their hiding place in a large depression. i wasn't paying attention and let my battery run out late into the night. bud had to take on the ghost herd single handed. he got 3 and we raced around to catch the wounded ones before they got out. a slow moving sow was leading the way on the trail of tears with a brave and loyal escort... right into the jaws of death. 22 recovered for the night.

Re: Trail of Tears - 10/28/17 10:35 PM

pretty fun hunt. well worth the total fubar i suffered the next day. got in just in time to go to work the next morning. but no one ever looks back and says... "hey, remember that time i got a great night's sleep". besides, it only hurts for a few days i'm ok now and going back out tonight.

snake,
a lot of shots were high and back, lol. could be because sometimes we were both shooting at the same pig. also, sometimes those bullets go through and hit beyond the pig. they're running so fast that by the time they find dirt the pig is well past.

if i could photoshop vids, id make every one a head shot. here is more footage with the sound to give you an idea of how windy it was. when i first setup my tripod, it blew over right into me. i was getting blown around so much that i couldn't even hold on my first shot choice and had to switch during the countdown. but then again, i'm djones so it didn't really matter, rifle

Re: Trail of Tears - 10/30/17 06:27 PM

ha ha, finally had to get rid of that truck after over a quarter million miles. man i loved it. super easy to black out all the lights inside and out. unfortunately, there were several months i was spending over $1,000/month to keep it running. of course i was kinda hard on her at times. man oh man, if she could only talk.

rex you come up with some crazy stuff sometimes. you certainly gave as good as you got. and btw, who the 'blank' did payne blo to get a mod position? what the heck have y'all been doing as mods? i take a little vacation and come back to see half of the folks here need a falcon punch to the nads. is this is a touchy-feely forum now?

I think someone made a mistake on both of us and were too embarrassed to admit the mistake, so we got stuck here. They somehow mixed up txshntr with djones. I always thought you would have made a great mod. rofl

There are definitely some falcon punches that need thrown, but it is moving in the right direction. Change is in the air, I can feel it grin

I thought being a Mod was some form of severe punishment that the WOS wasn't worthy to provide.

Good job, djones, even if they weren't all head shots, given the weather conditions and moving targets!!

Gotta ask, what do you do with the pigs? Do you leave them there or go fetch them? Just curious.

Re: Trail of Tears - 11/20/17 08:52 PM

yea middy, mostly peanut fields. but they could be anywhere. i got one last night in cotton

take their picture
drag them off
peel out on their heads
