2016 DIY CO Backcountry Mulie

Been a while since I've been on here. Moved to CO for a while and got the public land backpack hunting bug real bad. This is my 2016 solo backcountry deer. Shot him about 5-6 miles back across some mountains and down a drainage at 9am. Had him boned out and back to the truck by 11:30pm that night. Came back for my tent and wood stove, optics, and sleeping gear a day after (had to recover! What a whoopin'). Don't care about score or whatever but I killed a wilder than wild buck and dragged him out on my back and ate him all year, I'm a happy camper!

Thanks, y'all. I wish more folks knew how attainable it is to do this. The financial barriers are significantly less than hunting private down here. There is a knowledge hurdle but it just takes some time researching how to get it done and what basic tools you actually need (and learning what is just stupid gimmicks you don't need). The biggest hurdle to doing something like this on your own (that probably shouldn't b)e is physical fitness. If you don't take care of yourself this kind of hunt is a lot tougher to get done or enjoy though not impossible. Don't let something like mountain hunting be a "dream hunt" if you want it you can get it done every single year. It's your land out there and all these fine animals are managed in trust for all of us, take advantage of it!!
