Finally finished my 6.8 SPCII - 07/22/17 03:30 AM

After several years of upgrading, I finally finished it. It Has a Wilson Combat 14.7 match barrel, Yankee Hill Suppressor, Gibz Billet upper and lower w/side charger, Spikes lightweight carrier, LWRC bolt, Hydralic buffer, RR 2 stage trigger, Trijicon MKIII 60 Thermo

Scope w/battery pack, set up on a Slik Tripod. Also has a Crimson Trace Green Laser w/light among a few other goodies. It shoots -1" groups at 100 yds. Have even gotten 1/2" groups w/some almost going through the same hole.

I Like. Excellent Taste you have there!
Just a note though.
I ran an Enidine Hyd Buffer about 2 seasons and all of a sudden started having stove pipe/hang fires.
( Cost me a couple of Dead Hogs),
Turned out to be the Buffer was breaking Down, getting weak.
I put a Standard Spring/Buffer back in it and cured the issue.
But,, those Hyd Buffers really run smooth!!!

Might not be finished yet, thinking of having the barrel fluted to trim 6 oz.

Re: Finally finished my 6.8 SPCII - 08/06/17 04:35 AM

Just trimmed 9 oz, by removing the Trijicon laser/light and installing a Streamlight TLR-2 HLG, laser and light are not as bright, but for a close shot in a hurry, it will serve the job. The weight is more important as the whole rig now is about 11 lbs., w/15 rounds of ammo. Also replaced the hydralic buffer w/a STC anti-tilt buffer. Now I need to get to the range, so that I can hunt!

Well I thought it was done, but decided to trim some weight. Sent the barrel to Carl at Kampfeld Custom to get a spiral flute, he trimmed 5.7oz off of it and did a great job, turnaround was 12 days w/shipping! Then I replaced the handguard w/a Faxon CF and their TI barrel nut and some other TI parts. I trimmed 20oz. The rifle w/o scope but w/silencer weighs 7.6 lbs. Will trim even more when my Crux Nemesis gets out of jail.

Re: Finally finished my 6.8 SPCII - 06/02/18 07:11 AM

Just curiosity, did you consider an AR Performance barrell. I have a few friends that swear by them. Great looking set-up. 6.8 is the best way to go in an AR15 platform for hunting. Looks great.

Re: Finally finished my 6.8 SPCII - 06/02/18 02:43 PM

yes I did, just bought 1 in 5.56 wylde, but I had this barrel and it shot great, so I got it fluted.

Re: Finally finished my 6.8 SPCII - 06/06/18 06:33 PM

Also replaced the Rock River buttstock for a Magpul, that trimmed 3oz. By the way, the Trijicon scope w/cable and rechargeable battery adds 49oz, that's a lot. That's why I tried to lighten it as much as possible. And all the parts removed were used to build another 6.8 w/an Apex XQ50 that weighs about the same but w/1.25" longer barrel. It will be used as a buddy gun and when I hunt in the thick.

Re: Finally finished my 6.8 SPCII - 06/06/18 06:47 PM

Here's a pic of the second one, had to mount the battery high on the Apex, because of the side charger. Both guns use the Gibbz Billet side charger upper and lowers. My preferred choice over a rear charging handle, especially when suppressed.
