Forums Being Screwed by Photobucket - 06/24/17 01:42 AM

It's may not be reasonable to complain about something one has been receiving for free, but I'm going to do it anyway.

If you use Photobucket you already know the flood of pop-ups there have been getting worse and worse. Now, Photobucket has discontinued 3rd. party hosting of images stored there unless you buy their "PLUS 500" plan for $400 a year.

Otherwise, any image you try to post from your Photobucket account will show up like this:

What's worse, all of those images you've posted over the years will no longer show up unless you pay the ransom. That's going to have a real negative effect on many forums, especially those with reference and "how to" posts.

Is there any way to add a photo to a post here by loading it directly from your PC file, rather than using a hosting site?

Re: Forums Being Screwed by Photobucket - 06/24/17 02:02 AM

I hadn't heard about that.

But sure just click on the 5th icon button over Upload file. Then click on the Browse button. Find the picture and click save to put in post. Then the save all files. Something like that, pretty easy. Direct from your device to the forum.

Thanks Yotehater. I was unaware of that option.

It works!

Yeah, I don't know what their process is. Perhaps it has to do with the number of photos you're posted recently.

Over the last two weeks I've seen that "3rd. party hosting suspended" banner in post by others on a few different forums, but my photos were showing up just fine. Then today, I got the hammer. They will likely get to you also.

Free to store, but no more 3rd. party hosting. So you can't post them on forums, email, facebook, etc.

Re: Forums Being Screwed by Photobucket - 06/24/17 07:43 PM

I stopped using them a little over a year ago when all the ads slowed my uploading to a craw and made it almost impossible to load anything. BUT......then they offered a plan to bypass all the ads. roflmao Flipped them the finger and said adios!

What I don't understand about loading direct to THF is about half my pics load sideways regardless of their orientation on my computer.

This may be a 3rd party scam, several sites are reporting it. Hacked accounts.

If you take a pic with your phone be sure to
hold the phone in horizontal (iphone would be
with the home button on the right). This will
take the pic in correct orientation. Otherwise
likes been said edit pic to correct orientation.

What will appear in the text box is the code to
the pic. If you will then click "preview reply"
the actual pic should appear. Then "submit".

If this isn't it then you do need help with the process.

I still use it or Flickr because I can't get photos to post directly through THF about 60% of the time. It is very hit and miss. As far as Photobucket, the popups alone are enough to run me off. I'm done with that POS.

Re: Forums Being Screwed by Photobucket - 06/25/17 03:48 AM

I tend to post mostly on forums that I can use tapatalk on. Although if you don't pay a small annual fee there are ads on it now too.

Re: Forums Being Screwed by Photobucket - 06/28/17 11:50 PM

Looks like this is for real. I just noticed my sig pics are no longer showing and are replaced by the icon saying I need to unlock my account (really means I need to pay them some money because my account is not locked). I went to Photobucket website and looked in their updated terms of use and they are in fact not allowing any third party hosting if you have a free account.

I aint paying them any money so I will delete my sig pics here in a bit.

Re: Forums Being Screwed by Photobucket - 06/29/17 07:48 PM

I have seen a few other members affected as well. Not sure if they are just doing a certain number of accounts at once or what but at first my pics were not affected either........that changed yesterday along with several other members also. My guess is they are doing this in phases to keep from pissing everyone off all at once. Whatever the case may be I was done with them a year ago so no biggie to me. I figure its only a matter of time before all free accounts are affected since its clearly spelled out in their terms of use.

Looks like they got me yesterday as well. My pics showed up yesterday morning, but seems to show their new 'logo' from the first post in this thread. Oh well
Posted By: BayouGuy

Re: Forums Being Screwed by Photobucket - 06/29/17 11:54 PM

I deleted my Photobucket account yesterday. I have many posts on various muzzle loading forums with pictures of a variety of guns, target results with various projectiles and loads, and lots of "how to" stuff. Also, on three food plot forums with posts on no-till techniques, experiments and results. Those posts got a lot of views. It really pissed me that those pictures can no longer be viewed, rendering those threads just about useless.

I could understand it if Photobucket stopped 3rd. party hosting of new material. But to wipe out stuff that was previously hosted is really rotten.

Opened a free Flickr account yesterday. HEY! No pop-up. And fairly user friendly once you get used to their processes.

My problem is not with posting new pictures. It's with some old threads that I have saved. I did several quail hunting photo essays. They all come up without the pictures. There is one old thread that a friend did and his pictures still show up on there but mine do not. The friend no longer uses photobucket.

Here you go;

[quote=ET1]Last Saturday Bill, and his Cracker, Chris and his Clifford and Sandy, my wife and I and my dogs, Yeats and Zorro, did a lot of quail finding and very little shooting. We shot one bird and we will keep up that pace until this drought is over. It has rained and there is water in these pictures, but the drought is not over so we are being extreme conservationists. The dogs found eleven good coveys.

Select your picture on Flickr. The picture will appear in a larger black rectangle. At the bottom right corner of that rectangle is a "Share" icon - it looks like a curving arrow pointing to the upper right. Click on that icon to display the share box. At the top of the share box click on the BBCode. Copy and paste the BBC into your post.

Note: Pasting the entire BBCode will add some text before and/or after your posted picture. If you want to eliminate that text, delete those parts of the BBCode that appear before the after the IMG code (i.e. before [img] and after [/img] before clicking on the Submit button for your post.

Re: Forums Being Screwed by Photobucket - 07/11/17 03:15 AM

If you guys are concerned with photo storage you might think about getting a memory/hard drive to load them on rather than relying on a third party site....it's what I've done so I don't have to worry about losing photos. I use Photobucket but pretty much only for use to help me load them online for this and other sites. Currently photobucket still works for me.

Re: Forums Being Screwed by Photobucket [Re: BayouGuy] - 07/11/17 01:05 PM

Got this in my email this morning:

WE NOTICED THAT YOU HAVE BEEN USING
PHOTOBUCKET FOR 3RD PARTY HOSTING*

PLEASE UPGRADE TO A PLUS 500 PLAN.

Our Terms of Service does not allow 3rd party hosting with your current account level.
UPGRADE NOW

*What is 3rd Party Hosting?
Photobucket defines 3rd party hosting as the action of embedding an image or photo onto another website. For example, using the <img> tag to embed or display a JPEG image from your Photobucket account on another website such as a forum, Etsy, eBay auction listings, a blog, etc. is definitively 3rd party hosting.

I politely told them to stuff it.

Re: Forums Being Screwed by Photobucket [Re: BayouGuy] - 07/15/17 04:33 PM

I downloaded what I wanted (as some of them were lost to a swimming phone) and deleted the rest. Then deleted my account. The process of uploading with them stinks anyhow. I quit using them when I started using Tapatalk. Shame this forum doesn't work with that.

Created a Flickr account and went to photograph, clicked on the share arrow, then clicked BBCode and copied everything including [img] and everything in between and [/img]. When you copy the BBCode it copies more than you need so you have to delete everything before [img] and after [/img] when pasting it here. Worked perfect.

It is still much easier to upload directly from the 5th icon from the left in the message box on this site.
