Metal detecting after tornado

Metal detecting after tornado - 05/11/17 09:26 PM

I'm over here in emory where the bad tornados hit last weekend in Canton, Fruitvale and emory. Ive been going out to the destroyed homesites and doing what I can metal detecting to recover wedding rings, heirloom jewelry and coins for people who lost everything. Here are some picture from a GREAT trip I had Monday where I was able to recover a newlyweds engagement ring, wedding back and lots of other jewelry. I now have other detectorists volunteering to help me and we have a list of properties we are detecting over the next week to try and recover more lost items.

That's awesome! Too many people would take advantage of the situation to make a buck. It's a great thing you're doing for the people that lost everything. I know they'll be very grateful. Good man!

Re: Metal detecting after tornado - 05/13/17 03:11 AM

Are all 8 of my photos showing? Its messing up for me.

Pictures from today. I had two detectorists come out for the day to help me today. We found gold and silver jewelry, Lots of coins from a coin collection including morgan dollar and quite a bit more. Both places were still covered in debris so I will have to go back after its cleared because I know more is there. Glad we were able to return what we did.

Re: Metal detecting after tornado - 05/13/17 03:21 AM

Yeah the story of finding the rings for that couple kind of exploded. Three different news station have conducted interviews and aired the story. 105.3 radio did an interview and did the story on the radio and yesterday I got a call from Good Morning America. They have a video and article on their site and yahoo news. Now, two more news stations are wanting to come out and film at one of my searches. Its been absolutely nuts.

That's crazy. The weather channel is going to do a bigger story on it, they are doing an interview with the couple and me on Thursday.

I'm doing another search tomorrow in Canton, hoping to find lost wedding rings in the debris. Hopefully I don't get rained out.

Heard the story yesterday on the country radio station "Doc and Kelly". Good news travels fast and it's a good thing you're doing.

They are contacting me. The very first one I did which is the story that had made the news, they posted on facebook about the lost rings and I contacted them about trying to detect for them. Since the news has spread, everyone else has been contacting me. The requests for help are still coming in.

At the search yesterday, I was moving aside some debris and came within about 6 inches of grabbing a young copperhead. Luckily, it wasnt riled up and didn't strike at me.

Went back out today to one of the places I hit last week. Weather was a lot nicer. Found a very cool 14K Gold watch. Its a Hamilton 19 jewel from around 1940. Also found Silver ring, earing, silver coind, and a lot of other stuff.
