Daughters 1st Turkey - 03/20/17 03:31 PM
I headed out to the ranch Friday evening with my daughter and cousin for the Spring opener. Saturday at around 9 we get a pair of Toms to come in and put on a show. The excitement on her face was priceless watching them do their thing! They must have been 10 yards from us but they wouldn't come into her shooting lane. I didn't want to risk them spooking so we waited for them to get into the tree line directly behind us before we made a move. I had a good idea where they were headed so soon as they hit the trees did I grabbed her 22 and rest and told her we were gonna move quick and cut them off. We circled around and set up at the top of a knoll overlooking a nice opening. I called once and they came out about 45-50yds from us and presented a perfect shot! She shot him and immediately jumped up to give me a high 5! He ended up measuring a little over 10" with spurs at 1 1/4". This hunt is something I will never forget! It's truly a blessing sharing the love for the outdoors with her.
