Had a little tragedy on the ranch, one of the Pelicans hit the wire on the big hi-lines going across the ranch.

The other one is looking awful lonely at the back end of the lake.

The remaining fish in your pond will be happy.

Not much of a threat to the pond, it's over a mile long. The state has it labeled as a lake.

That will teach that pelican to look for greener pastures

A week ago a Blue Heron hit the lines with the same results. I've probably found 40-50 birds underneath those lines, mostly ducks.

Little off topic but I grew up in FL and seen pelicans all the time and never t a single one of them was white they were all grayish. Anyone know the difference? Is it a different breed or what?

You know, that wire might have cooked that pelican to a tasty medium rare.

Probably not too late. Just sayin'...

Well it looks like there was 3 Pelicans on the ranch, these two were back at the west end of the lake.

Notice the first pic was taken with my P-80 Nikon at full zoom, this pic was taken with the P-900 at 3/4 zoom. If I get out past that it's hard to keep the image still by hand even with the stabilizer. Rangefinder says they are 730 yards away.

Growing up in West Texas, I don't ever remember seeing a Pelican that far inland. Pretty rare in that area.
