My sons MONSTER 6 - 11/10/16 06:30 PM
My little man busted this monster 6 in Mason,Tx on tuesday evening!!!! I can honestly say this is the biggest 6 Ive ever seen! I also want to say that none of this would have been possible without Bruce Williams(brucewilliams on thf) of Hang Em High Whitetails! Bruce has an amazing operation and is one hell of a good guy! After talking to Bruce a few times on the phone about setting up a cull hunt for my son, he told me he had been seeing a big ole 6 point he would like to have harvested and he would love for my son to come down and try to get a shot at it.
So tuesday morning we headed out. We got into mason about 2:45 and met up with Bruce. Super nice guy and knows what hes talking about too! He told us he had been seeing this deer on camera a few times and from long distances but it was big and we would know the deer if it walked out. He got us situated in a blind and said he thought that this would be a good place to have a chance at seeing this buck. After he left it wasnt 10 minutes and we started seeing deer! we saw some really nice 8 points and few massive 10's pass through and some young bucks but no big 6 until all of the sudden he was standing right beside our blind!!! talk about nervous, I wasnt ready for how big this deer was overall and at 4 yds he looked like a monster! Well the big 6 made his way to the feeder and the other deer took notice and seemed to move aside! after talking to my son and getting him ready for the shot with his trusty 243 about 15-20 doe came running in! It just got harder! We couldnt hardley move without without one of them noticing us. Plus everytime he would get a shot a doe would get in the way!lol Keep in mind Trent had to set on my knee cause hes not very tall! so add my shaking to his buck fever and well, you get the point.so finally a shot presented its self and my little guy took the shot!!!!! He MISSED! lol it was a clean miss and the deer scattered. i watched the buck of his lifetime run off. I ask him to walk me through what had happened. It came down to him jerking the trigger instead of just squeezing. so as we recapped i noticed movement behind the feeder, it was our buck. He had circled and came back in behind the feeder!!! What are the odds? so we start again. Trent gets lined up and i tell him to breath and squeeze the trigger. BOOM,the 243 barks and see a monster 6 hit hard run about 20 yards and pile up in sight of the blind!!!!! Trent did it, he just busted a low fence giant that will be hard to top as 6 points go! we wait on Bruce to come pick up so we can go get Trents deer! I will say Bruce has an amazing tracking dog(dixie) and she knows what shes doing! She didnt have to track far but it was fun watching her work. we all high fived and talked about the hunt and the things that had happened. what a great day and a great hunt. The deer gods were waching over my lil guy!!! As happy as Trent was he was also sad. He cried just a little and ask if it was ok to do that, I told him there was nothing wrong with feelikng some remorse for an animal he had just harvested. It was an amazing hunt and one I will never forget!!!!
I got a doe the next morning! The amount of deer we saw was incredible and unbelievble! I honestly dont know how many but it was a lot!!! Saw some giant bucks too but never had a chance to seal the deal. Hope yall enjoy the pic and the story! Also, just wanted to say thank you again to Bruce for making this possible! Everything about his setup was amazing. From the deer in numbers and size to the accommodations and just Bruce personally! Probably one of the nicest guys you will ever meet and it shows how much time and effort he has put into the 1800 ac spot we where hunting on!!!! TRuely amazing! sorry for the long post!
