Wifes election day buck - 11/09/16 03:49 PM
Nasty weather and a potentially even nastier election prompted us to pick the kids up from school a little early snd go hunting. Deer movement has slowed tremendously since youth weekend, we were seeing about 7 or 8 different bucks but since opening day only a few have been seen.
We sat Saturday and only saw a few yearling bucks and one 2 year old 8.
Wife wanted to sit in the same blind we sat in on Saturday ( even thought the wind was wrong) with our girl and 9 year old boy. I took the oldest with me to see if we could connect on the large buck he missed during youth season.
right as the feeder goes off we end up seeing about 4 small pigs, we let them eat for about 10 min and when it became apparent they were not leaving we layed one out, drug it behind the blind and kept hunting.
Mom sent us a text a few min later saying that there was a small racked 8 point there with two does and that the kids were begging her to shoot it, our daughter is 3 and this was her first time ever sitting in a blind.
I told her its her lease too and she can shoot whatever she wants, not long after I heard the report followed by the textbook "whomp" of a solid hit. she texts back saying she got him and was going to get the truck. we hunt for about 30 more min and go up the road to join her.
she shot this buck on the point of the shoulder, broke his shoulder, shredded his heart and lungs and expired after a very short distance (20 yards)
It was not the small 8 point that we saw last week, instead it was a very large bodied buck for Bandera County.
it was her first whitetail buck she has taken since she was 15 and the baby's first hunt. I give her credit for being able to hold down two fidgety kids, make a good shot, drag the buck out to the truck and still not lose her sanity
