Why you pay attention walking to the blind...big deer for my place - 11/06/16 05:05 PM
Due to issues beyond my control, I had to miss opening morning. But I did make the afternoon hunt. We got to my place right at 2:25. I high fived my buddy and he went to his stand and I headed to mine. I always try to keep my head up. You never know what's going to jump and scurry on the way to the blind. I've never seen a shooter deer walking in or out, but I do see doe every so often, so I hold out hope. Well, yesterday it paid off. Just as I got to the blind I saw movement to my left and I froze. Out of the bush calmly walked this guy, 30 yards from me. I dropped to a knee and one shot and 13 minutes after getting out of the truck, my day is done. I know he's not huge. But he's the best I've killed on this place sense I've owned it. He's just over 15" inside. For a southwest red river county buck, he'll do and I'm stoked!! Lesson...always keep your eyes open walking to the blind!!
