I know exactly how it played out.

Bobcat left of his own accord or the buck made him leave.

Bobcat is no match for a mature buck (or Doe for that matter).

In any case, the buck decided how it was going to play out.

Re: Stare down ....... - 11/03/16 04:34 PM

Some people claim that bobcats eat deer so it could've ended outta camera shot with the bobcat hanging on the neck of the deer....
Good pic anyway STX, thanks for sharing

Bobcats kill quite a few fawns every year as well as some of the younger yearlings.

Cool pic. I watched a bobcat stalking some quail close to a feeder last season. There were 2 does at the feeder. One of the does saw the bobcat and chased it back the way it came from. She then returned to the feeder and continued eating.

There was not another picture of either one for two more hours till the buck was in the next pic. Strange thing about this pic is that here deer will run at the sight of a coyote, hog, bobcat or dog which made me keep this pic. They do not stare at each other but usually the deer just run. The only difference is sometimes with a bobcat they get vocal about seeing one and they start blowing/stomping as they leave. Many times a doe will blow/stomp after the cat as it causally moves off to make sure it is leaving the area. I think the issue here is the neighbors dogs that are around here year round chase any game animal or predator they see. Those dogs run freely across the country side from time to time. Just with coyotes, hogs or dogs they just run off quickly and don't return. I have had several bow hunts this season where the deer would look up in one direction and run off the way they came in. Never would see what they saw that caused them to run. That blind is close to a water trough that gets lots of predator activity, especially bobcats. I can usually hear the dogs barking when they are around chasing things. Most of the time the deer do not react to the barking just keep feeding though but will run if the dogs appear. Just strange to see both of them inside the feed pen when I have seen a bobcat show up. The deer will rapidly leave or react differently than to just stand/stare at each other.

Saw a Bobcat jump on the back of a young Spike years ago. The Spike shook him off and they had a stare down, then the Bobcat walked off.

Buck and Bob showdown: C Bob run bolt

Is that in an AR County? Because that buck don't look legal (just in case the Bobcat tried to take him).

Bobcats are notorious poachers. Almost no regard for the law.

I have had dogs come around and run deer off about 4 yrs ago in ML season, another time about 3 yrs ago and this year in early bow season. I hear them barking on mine from time to time and more on my neighbors year round chasing whatever they can find to "hunt". I see tracks more than I see the dogs due the sizes of the 2-3 in the group. I also believe those dogs being around are one reason I do not have many hogs show up which is not a bad thing. The deer really don't pay much attention to barking unless it gets really close.

I have seen that once before, same deal but it was Dove. Mama doe did basically the same, the others paid no mind to the kitty.

Neat photo to capture STX up
