Daughters Youth season sucsess - 10/30/16 03:33 PM
I booked a youth season weekend with Matt / Gorman Ranches. We were told that we would hunt Friday night ( No deer could be shot that night) and then Sat morning/evening and Sun morning. We met our Guide Nick in town and hit it off. After a quick trip to the house they had for us to stay in it was straight to the first blind. (I can not tell you exactly how many blinds they have but its more then enough!!! That night we had several doe come in as well as 2 bucks. One was probably 1 yr old and the other was a shooter that moved through the trees and then back 30 minutes later but we could not shoot deer that night just hogs... The next morning was a tough sit for my daughter and a slow morning. I saw a B&C coon at 300 yards and few other animals but nothing that got her excited. After the good evening sit we had she had high hopes or dropping a critter that morning but no luck. We got in our 3 place to sit Saturday afternoon fairly early to give us the best chance of seeing critters. It was hot and long but paid off. I might have used some language in the video but I think I cut most of it out. She drilled this deer at 92 yard with her 7mm-08 built by Gene Williams (shameless plug for my good friend and lease partner!!) My can was a bit heavy for her so we got he a Silencerco harvester.. And believe it or not she was using Remington 7mm-08 50% reduced recoil factory ammo. See video for how this worked out.... I was going to sneak in the winchester supreme ballistic silvertip ammo but could not do it with out her noticing.... And for all that will freak out about the fence in the picture it is a cross fence for this property and they have all the property on other side as well as all around it....
Thanks to Nick for the great time and getting us on the deer and Thanks to Matt for a great opening weekend we will never forget. This is her second buck and she decided to euro this one.. If she did another shoulder mount she will run out of wall space before she moves out of here!!!
I did try to get her to hold the deer close to her but she could not hold him up that way... We did get her to hold him close in the next set of pics... And yes I made her fill her tag out.
