LIVING FOSSIL FISH

LIVING FOSSIL FISH - 08/29/16 10:29 PM

Catch and release alligator gar fishing caught some nice fish throughout the day chasing warmer water temps and got chased out early due to heavy rains, but within the first hour of fishing we had a chance at hooking up a 7 foot gar but the area we found her in has a large amount of heavy snags and they proved too much for us. The fish landed in this video is close to 6 foot and 100 pounds catch and released after a few pics to promote the future of the species. Alligator gar have been on the planet for over 100 million years since the beginning of the Cretacious period and they have survived relativey unchanged, they are absolutely a living dinosaur that has withstood the test of time.

i have a 3000 yard spool of 100# and 130# suffix performance braid right now, that was 130# braid on that rod. had to break it that day on a snag and it took me 10 min.
