Thanks guys!! 10 years of hard work. We are high fence, but high fences don't = big deer. We fenced because we were paying 6000 dollars a year to hunt west texas and we were letting 3 year old 130-140 class deer walk, only to see them beat us back to camp. Hunters would harvest the very deer we videoed and all agreed to let walk.

We started by releasing just bred does and then got 7 does and 2 bucks of our own and started releasing bucks out of our pens as nubbons (the yellow and white tags.) We harvested as many native deer as we could and for two years we barely saw a deer. Our first year the biggest deer we had on the ranch was a 125" 10 point about 13 inches wide. We have won some battles and lost some, but all and all we are just about where we wanted to be from when we started. not trying to re-invent the deer, just letting them make it to 6.5 years old, be in their prime and reach full maturity before being harvested.
