I think that the darned fire ants just about killed them all off, but it appears that they are making a bit of a come-back. Sure hope so!!

Actually the big red ants are their primary source of food. The ants are coming back and this is aiding in the comeback of the horned toad.

Exactly. Around here the fire ants killed out or drove out the red ants and the horny toads disappeared right along with them.
They will eat the big red ants like candy.

You're all correct! My bad; I meant to say fire ants instead of red ants. Getting old isn't nearly as much fun as everyone says it is. . .

I have harvester (big red) ants everywhere, in fact their so bad I have to kill 5-8 mounds out of my yard every year. There are areas in my yard I have to mow slow so I don't mow over horned toads. Saw one this morning, bunch of them here on the ranch.
