My New imported dog from Holland

Posted By: daniel1381

My New imported dog from Holland - 06/24/16 01:41 AM

My female malinois just didn't work out on the bite like I wanted... so my breeder had a 4 yr old male Dutch Shepherd imported for me. Dog came with his own passport..kinda crazy.. but he is sick on the bite work...learning Dutch commands was crazy for first few weeks

He's trained to do article searches.. pretty cool to watch I flung a spent 40 cal casing in my yard without him seeing it.. told him the command to search and with in 3 min he brought the casings back to me.

Only training he needs for police work is drug detection... I'm not a police officer I just wanted a bad dog to keep around the house

Bamboo stick... when you do bite work you want a dog that is not scared of anything.. we also train with blank guns..

Re: My New imported dog from Holland - 06/26/16 02:24 AM

daniel: that's a good looking Dutchie! laugh

Didn't know we had anyone else on the forum into the working dogs. I just retired from a career in training K9 and Instructing K9 Officers. Worked with quite a few Dutchies, and they are for sure serious critters! They make most Mals look laid back grin
Hows his "on/Off" switch?...They are usually 'on'.... Hows his 'out'? ....they like the bite so much. Anyway..good to see such a nice looking dog and someone who understands him!

A quick pic of my own dog, he's pretty much a cream puff, certified in Narcotics only.....

Call name "Rommel" ( what else would you call a dog that looks like this?) grin

Re: My New imported dog from Holland - 06/26/16 03:14 AM

His out is amazing. No major issues whoever trained him over there did a damn good job. He is great on his commands and his drive for his Kong is crazy!! He weighs 7 8lbs and hits the decoy pretty damn hard!! I will try to get some videos of his bite work .. he is social when I'm around but he does not like other dogs at all!!!

Very nice looking Rommel!

Nicer looking dog. I have a cousin who is a deputy down around Beeville and his K9 partner is the same breed.

I used to do Shutzhund work and have a great respect for imported bloodlines. There is no comparison when it comes to working dogs.

WOW! You sure did! But you won't be sorry, he is obviously a high speed dog and Ray Allen makes great stuff. He looks great. Every Dutch Shepherd Ive been around wouldn't hold still long enough for a pic! wink

Daylight and dark difference. Intelligence, bid-ability, and tenacity.

Cas is all about work... he is ready for anything..the blank gun is cool to watch the decoy shoot at him and I haven't seen him fear anything. When they do stick work from my breeder they never take it easy on him.

Great looking dog sir. Very impressive

Re: My New imported dog from Holland - 06/27/16 12:39 PM

Very impressive! I love dutchies. I recently had to get rid of my boerboel, to much drive and his "off" switch was not as good as it should have been. But since my living conditions changed, it was not the right environment for that big of a dog. Talk about a bite, most decoys would only take one bite from him. He is happily living on a large ranch in sequin now with lots of room to roam. I am thinking about a dutchy for my next protection dog.

I talked to an old trainer around Ft. Worth last year, he told me the origins of the Dutch Shepard. It would really surprise most people what the bred to start the breed. I really like them for there tenacity.

He had the dog for a year and is a solid level headed dog... but has a amazing off and on switch.. he had 4 other people try to buy him but he wouldn't sell him and he owed me favour so I cashed in

Re: My New imported dog from Holland - 06/28/16 02:18 AM

You got a good deal on that dog! We were paying as much as $7.5 K for raw dogs from Europe.REALLY nice that he has a good on/off switch and better yet, a good 'out' as thats a recurrent problem with dogs not trained/raised right.
I envy you being young enough to run a high speed dog!

Re: My New imported dog from Holland - 06/28/16 07:55 PM

One of our guys got a Mal one time that just would NOT respond to his Dutch commands...finally returned him to the vendor for a replacement, or a tune-up...

Vendor says " I'm sorry...I forgot, that dog is trained in Spanish!" laugh

Sure enough, he responded right away! grin

My Dad trained and handled dogs for NOLA PD and Angola for years. Bloodhounds and guard/police shepherds. The last shepherd he had was a former Czechoslovakian (sp?) Police dog. You shoulda' heard that old Coonarse using Czech commands....hilarious. I think even the dog laughed a few times.

I had a German shepherd when I was on patrol from Germany all commands in German. Took a while to get use to it and folks would look at me funny talking to that dog.
