Nice cat on camera

Went to the lease this weekend, just got done checking pics and got 3 good pics of a nice cat. this was the best one. He was an hour late, to chasing a nice turkey, deer , and raccoon.

That is a pretty cat.

This is amazing, it it's truly an Ocelot.
There are only 100 or so known in South Texas,in 2 populations.

I am about 99% sure it is.
Before I shot that I would have someone that knows look at pics.
The longer rail, oblong spots and white patches on the back of the ears.
If it is that is a rare sighting and the state would probably want to know the area it is in.

my wife knows a bunch of people that work for TPWD, I'm gonna send them my pics to get confirmation.

A little quick research says the bobcat has a short tail, and an ocelot has rounded ears, could this be a mix??

US fish & Wildlife website says there are less than 50 in the US so prolly not legal to shoot. Lease is West of Lampasas and 4 miles East of the Colorado. All reported Ocelots are in the Lower Rio Grande.

Guys, that is not an ocelot. That is a straight up bobcat with ocelot-like markings. Look at the head and tail...bobcat.

A nicely marked bobcat.

Ocelot have a MUCH longer tail and distinctly rounded ears, fur is shorter. When you see the two side by side the differences are easy to see.

That is 1000% a bobcat, no hybrid, no ocelot, I handle hundreds of cat pelts a year. Just some nice rosettes on that one.
