Correct. Most folks are not aware. They are a rear fanged snake that basically produces a mildly venomous saliva.

Actually, the Garter Snake and Ringneck snakes (most) are also technically considered venomous.

Interesting....didnt know that, and I thought I was a "snake guy"!!

I never could get a hognose to bite me....they put on a great show, but they playing dead always kicked in before a bite.

I have been bitten by garter snakes and experienced some itch and irritation from it, not unlike nettles.

I thought hognose right off but did not know they were venomous! Not bad to have around the grain hopper.
