I bet my friend $20 he couldn't do it

I bet my friend $20 he couldn't do it - 04/04/16 10:25 PM

I took a friend of mine shooting today to help him get all of the data for a new rifle. He's just getting started shooting long range and asked for a little help verifying his velocity, making sure his zero was accurate and figuring out the wind.
After we had all of the data and he was a little more confident in the rifle we started stretching out the shots. I had painted a face on the 832 yard target and when he put two in the nose I bet him $20 that he couldn't put his next two shots in the eyes.

I lost.

Good shooting, especially for someone just starting out up

He was shooting a 6.5x47 Lapua. He's had it for a while but today was the first time our schedules synced up and could shoot beyond 500.

Joe is already pretty handy with a rifle. This is his first custom rifle built for long range.
He also shot a nice 6", 4 shot group at 1044 yards.
The shooting beyond that was brutal with the wind and mirage.

That should have said a 9" group not 6". Still pretty impressive in the conditions today.

up Some day I will get into long range shooting. I've always wanted to, just to do it. At the range I only practice at my hunting range and a long shot to me is 300 yrds. 200 yrds is pretty much a long shot for most in this neck of the woods. If I mow senderos past 150 yrds at the ranch I get bished at. I need a new custom 22-250 to reach out to 800-1000 yrds. peep The Lapua is just a fad, I could do the same thing with a well tuned 30/30. bolt

You will. Happens every time. Tons of guys I've taught tell me I cost them lots of money after they've come out for a day. It makes me a whipping post.

Ritter,

looks like you had to pay! You're teaching him well, that's some great shooting!
