I thought it was a copperhead at first from my daughters description but after seeing the pic, what is it?

I'm not sure but I catch them all the time though, they don't seem any more harmful than a regular garter snake, they are probably a certain kind of garter. They are almost always about 10-12 inches long.

Looks like a common brown snake.

Where's Snakewrangler when you need him?

Looks like it could be the common serpens advocatus.

I've been studying herpetolgy for 30 years. Imagine what I would know if I had Google back in the day.

Very common in Texas, we always called them a garden snakes as a generic term. Only snake I kill on sight is a Copperhead, even a rattler will get "relocated". Don't have cottonmouth where I am, so those would get the blade as well.

TRDM, I think they now have a shot for folks with herpatology grin

It was in my daughters backyard. They raked leaves the week before and were bagging them this weekend. she said it was about a foot long. Thanks guys!

TRDM is correct, feisty little things too. Make for great pranks at the fire station when you lay one on the table during dinner.
