Three oh eight, it's what's for dinner - 02/24/16 05:48 PM
He had the leg of a newborn calf in his mouth. In a trot, 300 yards in 15 mph wind. I'll take it!

Heck yes on the
. Is the calf okay?
The leg he had in his mouth was detached from the calf. The only reason I knew it was a newborn is that I walked by fresh afterbirth.
If I can help it, I never let a coyote or hog get a pass.
BigPig, one shot one kill of course.

Built, wired, damn good place to work. Now I need to move all my equipment from the shop at home up there and get it all set up. Bet it's winter again before I call it done.

Nice...I hate coyotes. We were a lot better off back when anyone could shoot them on sight anywhere.
We've lost two goats this week to a yote. Anybody near Mills County today I could borrow a thermal from for tonight?

Am I not supposed to be doing that?

DPMS Recon, 16" stainless barrel, Timney single stage trigger, Syrac adjustable gas block, Tiger Shark suppressor. Currently has an SS 5-20 MIL/MIL, but I'm planned to switch over to a Burris XTR II 3-15X.
155 gr Sierra Tipped Match King, 2600 fps MV

How does the .308 AR platform (16" or 18" barrel) perform at longer distances 500-800 yards? Assuming 1-10 twist with a 175-178 grain match bullet?

Re: Three oh eight, it's what's for dinner - 02/28/16 06:23 PM
My thoughts were it would be too slow out of the gate. The 175-178 gr is my go to .308 bullet, for a long barreled bolt action. But since the AR makes less velocity, and the 16" barrel makes less velocity. I needed to give the bullet some speed back. The 155 TMK is a miracle in that it has a high BC for as light as it is.
175 SMK, G1 .495
178 A-Max, G1 .500
155 TMK, G1 .518
So I've got a BC of .518 coming out of the barrel significantly faster than a G1 of .500 would be. That is a win, win.

And another yesterday morning. Bout second gear, then paused to look back at me from 225 yards.
Mistake.
