Deer Season Wrap-up - 01/06/16 04:22 PM
Pretty slow year in Runnels county this year, almost all deer taken after Dec 1st.
Almost exclusively saw bucks this year, and only a few immature does. The only mature doe I saw, I shot. It happened to be on in mid November. If I'd have known how few doe we'd see, I would've let her walk.
No PB's this year, but did manage two decent (IMO) bucks. The old beat up 11 pointer was estimated at 7.5-9.5 years old, and his teeth were worn down to the nubs. The 9 pointer was aged at 5.5 years old. We let all the young bucks walk, as we try to every year.
TONS of quail this year, they were everywhere.
Should be a bumper crop of good bucks next year. Thankful for another year in the deer woods.
